Sounds better, Noah. F of Li told me every 15k, which is laughable. Just hate to see you guys paying for what you don't have to.

And then there was my '73 Ford Pinto who's belt(same style as Ferrari) lasted over 125K.

IMHO: I think belt replacing is over-stated in Ferrari: better safe than sorry. I plan to ask for the old belt back just to check out actual wear. Belt tension is another matter.

hmmm... not sure what it's supposed to be on the 550 (maybe i'll check the book next time i think of it), but when FoLI did a major at 15k miles (which they recommended) it looks from my invoice (which i never bothered to even read very carefully until this conversation) like they did the belt changes. engine was under 2 years old at the time (although the car was a year older, since i had a new engine about a year in). i never really thought to ask them whether what they were doing is necessary. i naeively believed that i should trust their judgment.

pchop tells me FoLI told him that for the 550 you really don't have to bother with the 15k major until you reach 30k, which, if true, is another item on a list of reasons my fondness for FoLI took a downturn earlier this year. I may go back there once more in the hopes of getting them to straighten out a few things they seem to have screwed up before (and i don't have any major service items coming for awhile), but after that I'll probably let someone else start taking advantage of me. :)

i just consider getting scr@wed over by dealers one of the joys of Ferrari ownership. One of the joys i won't miss if i ever give up having a ferrari. :)

Was just thinking.....If there's enough of us needing a major, we should do this together. That way

    1) All cars in & out the same time.
    2) Perhaps a better deal, perhaps better service
    3) We are all cranky & going through withdrawl at the same time due to the loss of our cars. This way the pain isn't spread over months
    4) We could have group runs to visit our babies while they are in ICU
    5) We could have a MSF (Major Service Finished) run when we get them back & pick them up at the same time. a "Shake-down" run. And we pick up any parts that shake out because somebody forgot to tighten things down. :)

    So far there's

    Me
    Hubert
    JC
    noto - maybe

Hubi & JC - you are thinking FoLI???

werd clyde, thank you for translating my original post/point.
if enough people are getting majors, we should all roll in together and roll out together.

And other dealers are honest, LOL?
Stiil, I recall going to F of LI and the young lady at the front desk INSISTED I needed a belt change every 15k. I told her I read that it was every 52K. "Where did you read THAT?" she asked indignantly. When I responded "the manual," she had nothing to say.
Still, I go to F of LI. Why? Free pick up and delivery. Hey, ya gotta get kissed before you get F*&cked.

If we got a discount, I would be interested. I don't have the mileage, but the years are creeping up.

Don't be surprised if no one jumps at this. Each place might be hoping that the other dealer gets this business so he would be too busy to take on other work (at full price). I see this in my business all the time when my competitors advertise ridiculously low prices and then get overbooked with work, but don't make any profit. Pretty soon they're not my competitors any more.

no of course not. but you don't expect me to have another car if i get rid of my ferrari, do you??? how would i drive it?

i'm just saying that if i give up my ferrari and become, say, a sherpa in the himalayas, then one of the things i won't miss is getting kissed and f!cked by ferrari dealers. :)

My 30K was done just prior to me getting it. Has been running good as gold (knock on wood). Will probably head for an oil change in the next month or so.

decided to go with F of LI because JC and I need to have a warranty issued resolved (timing variator bullshieBe), which only happens at authorized ferrari dealerships if u dont want to pay for it.
