Doing my first pad change on a 512 tr and have a few questions: 1) I believe you have to remove the locking pins on the front calipers with a small diameter center punch, but the manual talks about pin locks. I can't see where these are installed, and how are they removed? 2) The spring lock on the rear calipers is retained by a locking bar. How is the the spring released? It seems that one pries it off that bar but since there are no marks indicating this has been done before, I believe I am wrong here. BTW did a search of the archives but to the extent its covered, these questions are not answered AFAIK Can anyone help?
The pin locks will be obvious once you have driven the pins out. They are passive in nature and will reengage themselves upon reinstallition of the pins. On the rear caliper if you ( using a suitable pair of pliers) squeeze the spring together at the center section in a fashion that will shorten the overall length of the spring, while at the same time using a screwdriver or other suitable device guide the closed end of the spring out from under the hook or tab that traps the spring it will just pivot back to a position that will allow you to remove the pads.
Thanks for the help - the rear worked as advertised. Cant believe I could not work that out for myself!! Must be bewitched. Dont have a small enough punch but thanks for the feedback on the locks.
