    hello all,

    i am new to ferrarichat but extremely glad it exists and i am hoping someone can be of assistance...

    i have a 86 mondial 3.2 cabrilotet, i recently bled the coolant with the phone assistance of my mechanic who is not local for me.....

    in the engine bay, the thermostat housing has a brass bolt and washer, which is loosened with a 13mm wrench, i removed this bolt to have the coolant flow out of the thermostat housing in order to remove any potential air pockets from the system....

    unfortunatley, i dropped the bolt and washer into the engine bay when i was trying to put it back onto the thermostat housing....

    so I am trying to get another bolt and washer and have no idea what size and length the thread part of the bolt is and wondering if anyone either knows or knows how to get this info.....

    Also, is there any way to get this bolt to fall out onto the floor, i thought about jacking the car on one side, but i am not very mechanical and am afraid of damaging the mondial...

    any responses would be most appreciative, thanks.....

    The bolt is an 8 mm with a thread pitch of 1.25 and is about 12 or so mm long. Don't start or turn the motor until you figure out where the bolt and washer went. If it wound up in one of the timing belt covers, starting the motor will be a disaster.

    Get yourself a good, strong flashlight, like a Maglite, and look around. It's got to be there. It may take some poking around and contortions to look for it, but find it. I agree -- don't start it up until you've located that bolt. If you see it and can't reach it, try putting some balled up duct tape on the end of a long screwdriver or stick. If it's brass, you can't get it with a magnetic pickup.

    Just a thought before you go crazy hunting -- look under the car. Things dropped often find their own way through, surprisingly. Don't shake the car or bounce it. It could be sitting out in the open, and your efforts to get it to fall through could make it go deeper or into someplace you really don't want it to be.

    You have little kids? I often find it very practical to have them search for things that fell e.g. under the cupboard. Being small might be an advantage when searching the engine bay :)
