Gerald, that photo was originally posted by JRV and was taken while he was working for Steve Forristal. The car was part of the Mecom collection at the time (circa 1983). http://www.ferrarichat.com/discus/messages/18/178045.html
Gerald, Who is Don Fong? He was the first owner of my PF Coupe 1381GT, and his name comes up sometimes in the Ferrari circles. Thank you. john
Donald W. Y. Fong was, for many years, a Ferrari dealer and service facility here in Atlanta, GA. A fair number of great Ferraris passed through his hands in the old days. He had a reputation for sharp (some would say shady, unethical or illegal) business practices--a rather common feature in those days of many of the people in his line of business. He eventually ran afoul of the wrong man who pursued legal action against him. This pretty much put him out of the business.
Thanks for answering my question and all these interesting responses. You guys are amazing! Is anyone going to answer the question about the 'dude' in the shorts? Or does he wish to remain anonymous. These VIR photos from this era look familiar to me because in 63-64 I was racing there in IKF enduros (go-karts) as a teenager. I never got to see the Ferraris that participated there in the 50s and early 60s. I went there in the late 60s as a spectator and in the early 70s as a participant in my SCCA DP Lotus S7 and later in my AP Vette. Anyone who has lapped VIR will tell you it is an outstanding, challenging, fun road course. It is great to see it has been resurrected after being shut down in 75. Now that it is back in operation and better than ever I have running laps at VIR near the top of my list of things to do! Nick England has created a terrific website with all sorts of VIR history http://dega.cs.unc.edu/~nick/new/vir.html
From Wayne: From Gerald: The person who supplied the original photos (who, by the way, is the dude standing by the car in the first photo I posted - not yet identified) also said #9 was S/N 4713.
Yale, Bob Grossman is in the blue driving suit and standing next to 4713. The man in shorts posing with 3309 is not Grossman and, as Gerald says, has not yet been identified here.
Does somebody knows which car this is ? (i suspect it is made in AI but i'm not sure) Image Unavailable, Please Login
