    Sorry I have to ask this stupid Q
    I have a friend who in 1985 has a Boxer, but I'm not sure which model.
    Do they look similar?

    I just remember his car has 6 exhaust!

    Both has the same 5L flat-12?
    When I look at the pics of Koenig 365bb and 512bb visually they look the same

    No the 365BB's engine is only 4.4 ltrs (365cc x 12) while the 512BB's is 5 ltrs.

    The easiest way to tell the difference is the 6 (365 BB) vs 4 (512 BB) exhaust pipes and the 6 vs 4 rear light sets. Also the 365 BB does not have air ducts in front of the rear wheels.

    Nor the front spoiler....

    also don't forget there were several versions of the 512BB

    365 BB = 380 bhp
    512 BB (carb) = 360 bhp
    512 BB (Injection) = 340 bhp

    the last ones (injection) had more torque - forget the actual numbers and the bhp values of the earlier cars were always suspect in those days...

    Here are all of the differences I can think of:

    365 has no front spoiler while 512 does
    365 does not have NACA duct in front of rear wheels
    365 has same width rear wheels as front; 512 has wider rears
    365 has three tail lights/reflectors per side vs two per side in 512
    365 has wire mesh rear grill material while 512 has horizontal slats
    365 has three exhaust tips per side vs. two per side in 512
    512 has three rows of ventilation louvers in rear deck vs. none or one for 365 (early 365s had none but later had one set in center)
    Early 365s has one piece seats while later 365s and 512s have two piece seats with adjustable back rests.
    365s have narrower rear track and bodywork.
    365s have 4.4 liter flat-12 vs 4.9 liter for 512s
    Power outputs:
    365 = 360 DIN or 344 SAE net hp, 302 lb-ft. torque
    512BB = 360 DIN hp, 333 lb-ft. torque
    512BBi = 340 hp (DIN?), 333 lb-ft torque

    365 compression ratio is 8.8 vs. 9.2 for 512s
    365s have lower gearing (3.75 final drive vs. 3.21 for 512s)
    365s have 34 mm carb chokes vs. 32 mm for 512 BB, BBi is fuel injected
    365s tachometer red-lined at 7700 rpm vs 6800 (or 7000?) rpm for 512s
    365 and 512BB speedo reads to 330 kph vs 512BBi at 320 kph
    365s have window switches positioned in different position on console
    512BBis have metric size wheels
    365s and 512BBs have front grills extending completely accross with parking lights behind, 512BBis have truncated front grill with parking lights on each end.
    512BBis have full size side mirrors on each side. 365s and 512BBs had none or small tear-drop ones.

    I am sure that I have missed something.

    Now I remember, my friend's car has six exhaust and six tail lamps.
    Definitely a 365bb.

    That was in 1985. When was the last production year of 365bb?

    Wanna know something that will make you all weep?

    ***HIS DAD REPAINTED THE CAR MORE THAN 5 TIMES ON HIS FRONT YARD!! ***

    Original color was light green metallic,
    then many other colors, I think it was brown, black, red, etc.
    Finally settled down on light blue metallic (not as nice as azzuro)
    I think the car repainted over and over for one whole month... good thing it was not rainy season :)

    IMHO it is a crime to repaint your F-car on the yard like that
