Dear all, please advice me. I was planning to change the timing belt at the garage and found that the timing gear has a slight move from the shaft. It turns 5mm on each side of the rolling direction. And also 1~2mm front or backward. The nuts at the center is tight enough and the shaft itself does not move to wrong direction. The decition of the mechanic is that hole of the gear itself became large and because of that, it moves. Is anybody had this kind of trouble and also if anybody has spare gears even 2hand, I would like to buy. As long as this gear is no longer manufactured. I am sure that this post is written with bad English, and exprenation and the spells are not good or enough, but if anybody understood my situation, please advice to me. Thank you very much
Takashi, The gears are available, as you can see from the picture there are two different types, one has the belt guide on the inside and the other has the guide on the outside. Item 11 is part # 113097 Item 12 is part # 113098 They cost £173.40 each plus shipping etc.
Dear Malcolm, Thank you for the information. I am sorry for the poor exprenation. What I am looking for is No28. I believe that this is no longer manufacture, aren't they? If you have the stock for '80 308GTSi, please let me know. Thank you very much.
Sadly you are correct, item 28 is no longer available, the Ferrari part number is 112018. I will do a worldwide search and if anything comes up I will let you know.
Your problem is more than likely the bearings (items 30 and 31 in previous picture) that support the shaft that the gear sits on have collapsed. Read through this thread for more information....http://ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=28437
Thank you for the reply. yes, I am checking this topic everyday. The situation is similar to me. But as I am not the one to touch the motor, my mechanic told me that the shaft itself did not move by hand and because of that he says that the bealing should be okay. But anyway, I will ask him to let me touch the shaft myself and with that, I will think about changing bealings. Thank you.
If it moves for and aft as well as rotationally I have to agree with Malcom, the bearing are highly suspect. Also Malcom is a parts guy, ask him how often he sells bearings and how often he sells lower sprockets.
Good point, last sold a set of bearings last week 22/10/2004 and the lower gear............22/10/2000
Wow, great information!! I will talk with the guy tomorrow(it's 3am already here in Japan and I am just back to home, hehehe)
By the way, is it possible to change the bealing with the motor on the car? What do I need to change them?(any gaskets?) Is there any special tools to loosen the nuts of the pulley? Sorry for more questions but let me know. Thank you
Malcom, what is the best way to contact you through e-mail?? or PM? I have a distributor question I think you can help with. Thanks Sean F.
Dear all, My trouble solved. Please see the attached photo. The knock pin(Key pin) for lower pulley of the timing belt slimed. As my opinion, previous owner changed the belt but did not tighten the nuts of the pulley correctly and that cause loosen pulley and the move of the pulley slimed the pin, I believe. Anyway, thank you for all and your advice surely helped me. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Thanks for the update. I would have never thought "butchered woodruff key" would be the cause of you gear movement. Seem obvious in hindsight.
