Because you can't figure your way through a thousand options hidden behind thirty eight million different panels accessed in umpteen different ways and worded so PhDs have trouble deciphering them?

Dude, everyone's a moron when it comes to IT.

Now, what did it take to fix your problems?

Yeah I think I could help you. LOL, get on AIM and I'll walk you through it. It's not too hard, but I'll help you setup your folders so accounts don't mix/ go to the wrong user

Carbon, for 1and1 your username for the e-mail address is actually something like "m28317293", not carbon or [email protected]. If you go to the control panel, you will see this name listed under the e-mail portion.

full email as username. finding out what provider he uses by doing a tracert and then telnetting over to mail.earthlink.net to make sure that is valid for sending. then plugging that into the outgoing mailboxes for two users. took a few minutes, but when one user had ~3,000 msgs coming down the pipe, it slowed things down a bit. edit: oh, and getting the servers for mail.thedomainrequestedwhatever.com correct.

Yeah, earthlink blocks outgoing SMTP at their borders, so you MUST use their smtp for mail, regardless!

I own a hosting company, and have to say, that's the stupidest practice I've ever heard of.

    No, and not really.

They don't block outgoing SMTP traffic. I know this because well.. I just do. The two addresses setup for NNO were @carbonmccoy.com and @ferrarimarketletter.com. They worked just fine.

Also, not really on bad practices at all. It's a very good practice. Think about how *nix systems are designed. What is the root account? Oh, it's root, and you cannot rename that. There you go, there's half of your login credentials right there, just like email addresses.
