Further to my last post, I have now diagnosed that I have faulty alternator. However, we are having great difficulty removing it. My mechanic friend has managed to remove the top bolt and belt. The problem is with the lower bolt that goes into the sump: At one end of the bolt, it goes though a metal sleeve. This sleeve is spinning with the bolt, thus not allowing the bolt to come undone. Does anyone have any tips on getting this out without damaging the sump? Thanks in advance.
