I need to replace the sensor on a 98 Spyder, looks not too easy to disassemble the drive rails. Any advice? Also, what hydraulic oil are you all using to top off the soft-top system? Thanks, Brian
Brian: Search the archives. There you will find information on finding fluid, filling the reservoir, and changing the position sensor. It's not too complicated. -JC
Oh, and you absolutely do not need to disassemble the drive rails to replace the sensor! Pulling the seat, replacing the sensor, and replacing the seat will take you about 45 minutes to 1-hour, if you have a bit of knowledge up front.
The hydraulic fluid you MUST use is ZH-M from Mercedes Benz. About $30 a liter from Mercedes. Take the panel off between the seats. Undo two allen bolts and pull the pump assembly away from the body so you can access the filling plug. Remove filling plug bolt. Use a syringe type thing with a plastic tube on it to fill the reservoir. Do it slowly so the fluid has time to get into the reserovir and not spill out. Takes about 30 minutes ... pretty routine... no nasty allen/wrench sizes. Pete
