Chaps... I was just wondering how many of you parked your cars in a garage or kept it out side, ie in the drive with a cover on etc.. Do these outdoor covers actualy protect the car? I may need to park a car outside for several months whilst a new garage gets built. Thoughts?
Mine has never spent a night outside since I've had it. How about looking at alternative accomodation for the car while your new garage is built? Either renting garage space or getting hold of a temporary structure if you have the space?
Inside the garage with heater and dehumidifier. Would never leave it outside. Carcoon do make a very good outdoor cover I believe if you cannot rent a garage.
Hold on, think I;ve seen one on a garages thread. Like a big see through plastic bag...? structured bigger than the car?
I'd be scared of leaving it outside in one of thise. Looks like something from ET! round here, would probably get slashed too...
Do these outdoor covers actualy protect the car? I may need to park a car outside for several months whilst a new garage gets built. Rod I was lucky and my next door neighbour let me put it in his garage while I had mine built. A cover outside i dont think is really a good idea for an "F" try and get some indoor accomodation sorted if you can. Good luck mate
It will be fine. Get a decent out door cover - a custom fit one from Specialised Car Covers - and make sure the car is cleaned and driven regularly. If you just ditch it somewhere with a rubbish cover and never drive it you will have problems. Otherwise it will be fine. Cheers, TOM
I park my car outside on the drive with a outdoor cover on. Never had any problems with bad weather or anything. I looked around for ages to decide which cover to buy and was lucky to come across an article in a mag which compared outdoor car covers. The rated Specialised Car covers as one of the best. (http://www.carcoversuk.com) The covers are tailored to the shape of the car, and fit like a glove. I went for the waterproof and breathable cover, and it does exactly what it says on the tin. The only downside I find is that when i've been driving the car around during the day and it comes home dirty, I dont use the cover to avoid the inside of the cover getting dirty. Other than that no issues. I dont think rust will be an issue if you use a breathable cover. However if you put the cover on a dirty car, the dirt will probably start to scratch the paintwork over time. Obviously though parking a car under a cover will never be as good as a garage. But i've found it to be a good solution to my problem.
I had mine under a car cover from Specialised Car Covers (as mentioned in the other posts in this thread) from April to September without any issues whatsoever. As has been said, the cover is superb, about £250 but tailored to the car and fully breathable. I probably wouldn't want to leave it under the cover for a few months though, you really want to take the cover off once a week. I now however have rented a garage close by (joys of living in London, garage space is hard to come by....) and am much happier that it is under lock and key, with some protection from the elements during the winter months.
I'd always want to use a garage wherever possible, however a guy down the road from me has his 360 parked continually outside with a thick cover and whenever I see it its always looks gleaming.
Guys I am not concerned about the security of the vehicle. (He says).. It's more the condition of the body.. Do UK Ferrari's rust/deteriorate quicker than say a LHD that his lived in a warm climate? I have stored a few porsches out side and they have always remained rust free and reliable.. Rod
What model is it? I've seen very rusty 348s and 355s before, so I would never leave mine outside and try to keep it dry and salt free. Ade
I only bought my Mondial just this year in September, hardly used it but it is now garaged. I finally got my garage back after my wife had her cars (current being an MX5) in it, and she is quite p1$$3d off now I think if you have no security issues a decent breathable car cover is a good short term solution. Regarding insurance do check, mine has to be garaged when it is kept in the vicinity of my address.
if you've got the space I would suggest renting a temporary structure, something like a site hut/timber building. Defo not leave outside, even in a carcoon IMO of course!
