Chaps / Chapesses As a young 20 year old driver I am having trouble getting an Insurance Quote for an Audi TT Roadster 1.8 (180BHP) 2000 Registered. I cannot get a quote anywhere, even with my dad as the main driver! Makes no sense that I can get cover on a 328 but not on here. Does anyone know anyone in the same situation? Esp with the young Ferrari Drivers out (Cal, Foxy, Ade etc). Any good recommendations? I have tried L&V, Call Connection, Policy Shop and Auto Talk. All were 5k premiums!! Thanks for your help, Lee
They're doing you a favour Lee. If only clothes and music shops would take a similar approach with todays early twenties
Hi Lee I've been following your quest for a sports car recently and it seems you always end up getting very high quotes from insurance comapanies because of you age. I'm guessing the TT for example, is so expensive from wanting to run it as a daily driver. Have you considered keeping the megane (a TT roadster is a girlies car after all ) and getting something silly for track or limited weekend use? Something you can frighten fcar owners with when you tag along on the drive outs. If its over 25 years you should get some sort of classic insurance. What about an early Porsche turbo (probably frighten yourself more than anyone else with that) an Aston V8, TVR Tuscan, a GTD40, a lambo Urraco, maserati merak...just a thought. Good luck in your quest whatever you get...even if it's a TT roadster Cheers Simon
Lee, this company is tops, always gave me the best deals on high performance stuff when I was in my early twenties: http://insurance-broker-directory.com/detail.asp?CompanyName=5648
Try privilege, they usuallly will insure you as a second driver, I had it on my dads car from about 20
Got a quote from the company you suggested Eric and youre right, they are the best so far at £4391!!! Cheers Lee
Funnily enough, been looking at some 205GTi track converted car!! Ebay, got some nice little runners on there...
Lee, Make your mind up lad. I thought you were getting a 328GTS. What's all this nonsnese about Audi's and Pugs? Nigel.
The Audi was going to be my next day car, a pug was gonna be a track car. Just cant seem to get insurance companies to like me
i have looked into track cars, to be honest its cheaper to get a second hand set of wheel and tyre off ebay and use em for tracking, i can get reasonably priced tyres and just pay the track insurance and track fee's, you will inevitably incur other cahrges with a track car as they tend to be a lot older and likely to break down
I'd suggest treating them all as one- go to a broker with that, and you'd hope that their eyes would light up... and they may try harder to give you a good global deal. Robert.
Hi Lee, You could try CIS ( I can find a tel no if you need) - Last year we insured my 17 yr old son as 2nd driver on a 1.6 Escort. They were very helpful and have no problem with the modifications that he had done on the car provided that it didn`t increase engine power. regards ChrisP
If you're considering 3 cars Lee (328, daily driver, track car) then I'd go with Simon's suggestion and keep the Megane (or flog it and get something cheaper as the daily hack - used Focus perhaps?) and buy an additional interesting motor for track days. I'm obviously incredibly biased, but I know for a fact that a Caterham can be insured pretty cheaply as a young driver. And little can touch them round a circuit.
Hey Lee, In case you have not got a good enough quotes yet, here are the ones I've been using since 22. 22 Direct Line 4K Boxster (2 Yrs NCB) 23 Tesco 3K Boxster (3 Yrs) 24 Direct Line 3.5K 355 S (4 Yrs) 25 Direct Line 2.6K 355 S (5 Yrs) 26 A.S.A (Through GaryH who posted in this thread!) 1.8K 355 S I guess it depends on NCB, but surely around 3K for a TT is right for 20-21. Good luck mate! Ade
