Just to chime in, I am not sure I am following all the crossfire. There's no need for it, though. I would like to focus on a simple, harmless question...why were the two threads merged. If we are not allowed to find out who did it, at least give us a reason. It just seems like a misguided move, and it's probably too late to undo it now. But an explanation would be appreciated. It can be anonymous for all I care. And in the future, if threads are merged, explanations should be provided then as well, if the reason is not immediately obvious. I like Bruce. He's an incredibly nice guy and a fixture on F-chat. I haven't seen anyone intentionally insult him, although I don't read every thread. I do know he's well liked, and I doubt any of the mods would insult him. But I don't know. Anyways, if there's any acrimony, maybe it can be discussed elsewhere. I don't want to project a holier-than-thou attitude (!), so please don't take this as sermonizing. I simply want to know why two unrelated threads were merged. If it was a mistake, please fess up (anonymously), and I am sure everyone will be ok with it. If there was some reasoning behind it, I for one would genuinely like to know.
Well, noone did answer that question. People took offence, went off topic, merged threads, etc., but noone did answer that. Call it etiquette, habit, whatever, but you have to admit it doesn't make sense to use a utensil in the wrong way. You don't use the back side of a spade to scoop up dirt, and it makes no sense whatsoever (at least to me) to use the backside of a much smaller version of a similarly shaped tool to pick up things which have a propensity to roll off. I would be interested to hear from those whom this makes sense to, but so far they haven't addressed it directly.
And noone is answering why the two threads were merged. It doesn't matter who did it, if you mods want to close ranks. As I have said before, he's completely transparent to me. It's just another example of why he shouldn't be a mod in the first place. But come on, tell us why!
I gotta agree here, except for the similar titles the threads had absolutely nothing to do with each other, and the merge just made it totally confusing. I guess we should just move on and let this one alone.
TRV don't question the mods at all otherwise you will be labeled as someone that by no means is a representative of the contributing, understanding, and valuable users of this community. Don't want to go against the grain. It just follows the same problem as the other thread No Communication.
I am English and I use the wrong side of the fork to eat my peas! It's not something I had ever actually thought about until I saw this fantastic thread. I was brought up to believe that when using a knife and fork the knife stays in your right hand and the fork in your left. You don't turn your fork over and use it like a spoon/shovel so the way to eat peas is to sort of squish them on to the back of the fork with your knife. I can see why this makes no sense and seems illogical. I offer no reason why I do it other than conditioning! However, I am quite skillful at this and I would certainly not let chasing peas around a plate reduce the amount of drinking I did! I have tried my best to answer your question and the answer is that there is no logical reason - I just do it without thinking. I suspect the reason that your threads were merged is a similar one!

After I had posted on what I thought was the best thing about the Brits (namely, their car companies) I realised I had omitted something else I reallly, really enjoy--their sense of humour. Lets see here now..... This started as a thread on peas and forks, then it was joined with another thread, and now, for most of the last two pages it has been about a third topic: Thread joining. All we need now is a moderator who is a man of the cloth and well have a slowly knitted straight jacket. At which point the peas will have to be licked up off the plate because they dont allow knives and forks in places like that. Or so I remember. I think.

I just spoke to Zack (you know he is in Europe now - reminiscing about how he spoofed TVRaptors IP address and had us all thinking that TVRaptor and Zack were one and the same) and he claims he eats peas with a shovel. By the way, he is as pis$ed as TVRaptor that the threads were merged. Who would have thought! As soon as he sells the hotel he may begin posting again. (TVRaptor - you may want to cloak your IP address so he doesn't spoof it. You wouldn't want him stealing both your vernacular and your IP address again).
