This only happens right after I washed the car, and it will only last no more than a few seconds. I had the major service done exactly a year ago so the belts are new. Is this something I should worry about and is there something I can do to get this to stop? Oh, the car is a Testarossa. TIA.

No need to worry. Most likely the water is getting into the engine compartment and getting on the belt, causing it to slip (squeek) a bit when you first start the car. After it gets dry, it goes away. Pretty normal occurence. Hope this helps.

Thank you for answering, really appreciate your help. I didn't think that it would be a big deal, but needed some reassurance. Again, thanks.

Mine started to squeak after the last rainstorm in So Cal. Two weeks later it broke on the way home at 11 o clock at night at 6000 rpm. It wasn't all that new anyhow but now I am carrying spares and the appropriate wrenches to be on the safe side.

It's just one more thing besides the flashlight and fire extinguisher.

Thank you for your input, my car only does that after a wash. And it only lasted for no more than a few seconds so hopefully it is not a real issue with the belts. Also, I will be honest with you, if the belt does break, which I hope that it never will (knock on wood) :) I wouldn't know how to fix it myself and I think the engine has to come out in order for the belt to be changed.

Be careful, it could be bearings slowly beginning to wear.

If the belt busted, more then just belts would need changing. You should keep a record for when the belts were changed last. There have been big discusion on this belt changing issue on f chat. I am almost tired of it. My advice is follow the manual..

I have seen and heard this on many 308s that I've serviced, just after wash or rain. The noise comes from the alternator/water pump belt, not the cam belts. Don't worry - just drive the car.
The 308 does not use a normal V-belt. Instead, it's a Gates Polyflex. Very noisy when wet but it rarely lasts more than 10 or 20 seconds - a bit longer at idle.
The absolute WORSE thing you can do to a 308 belt is make it too tight - almost guaranteed to ruin the water pump and/or alternator bearings. If it slips a bit, it might wear out prematurely but, a belt is a lot less grief to change than the water pump.
