Thanks for the compliment about the Elise.

Unfortunately its currently in a bodyshop as some stupid woman skidded across the road straight into me about a month ago. All being well I should have it back in about a week.

I take your point about the auto on the 456. If it were my choice I would rather a manual. My father bought the car for long distance touring and the auto suits it really well. Its easy and relaxing to drive fast for long periods.

I'm sure that if it was a manual I would have hit at least 170 at the VMAX event on Sunday. 160 wasnt too shabby though. One of the 360's only managed 170 and is a much lighter car.

I think that is a great combination....yes, they are entirely different cars. where I live (coastal northern California), a lightweight car is the enthusiats choice, whereas in other parts, the more powerful, and luxurious car is the better choice. for quick bouts up and down the coast where I live, the Elise would most likely be best....for a nice vacation, or cruise down to dinner, none better than a prancing horse!

Will try and post photos of mine. Hope it works. Last time I tried got kicked backas too large a file. Mines a six speed manual and I too don't like the Auto gearbox. Tried one out,found it boring,also heard about nightmare costs if box goes t*ts!! Don't find clutch hard work,but as with most F cars gearchange can be hard work when cold. All said,I could forgive it anything as NOTHING,but NOTHING can beat that feeling of starting her upand hearing the roar of the Tubi. My neighbours think that concorde has just taken off,what a rush!

thanks for compliments. In case anyone out there is frightened to drive these beasts,I've already banged up10Kmiles in less than 12months,who cares if it knocks any money off,they're already bottoming outon price so just get out there and eat road! There is nothing worse than these whiners with F cars that live in the garage hoping one day the long range forecast might give them a dry day in 6months time. If you don't want to get it wet or dirty buy a motorised umbrella (or a merc, much the same thing).
Lets face it .at current prices the 456 has got tobe the steal of the century.Where else are you gonna get a 200mph luxury executive super car for peanuts?
Just got in now froma quick blast and yet its p**ssing down here in l'il old england! Didn't stop me blipping up over the ton again !!!!!

Thanks for that - alot of people tried to tell me the same - but having seen a 550 in Rosso and absolutely loving it - It had to be Rosso and believe me they are very hard to find.

To be honest the pics don't really do it justice - it is quite simply stunning in the 'flesh'.

What? in our swimwear?

 

I do not own a Ferrari yet but I am trying to get more educated with the costs of ownership. I know that 456's are high cost cars to maintain compared to other V12's but what do these updates entail? If I buy a 550 a few years from now will I have to worry about "scheduled" $15000 updates?

I know this a very broad question, just looking for a broad answer

we talking car's that cost over $200k new. sure they cost money to keep running its tough to say how much but if you cant afford to run one without adding up what it may or may not cost i dont think you should buy one.
we all know they are not cheap, but its % you have to look at not bottom line $$$'s. hey i would love to buy a used 456GT for 70k and not have to spend anything on it but thats not going to happen, But iam sure gald i am not paying $225k driving it for 4-5 years and selling for $100k.

A major is about every 5yrs or x-miles and on a 550 or a 456 with not to much wrong iam guessing no more than 6-8k with 1 service a yr about 1-2k

Steve any idea on the who, the why and the wherefor on this convertible?

 

I think it was Stramann who converted the 456, why - a Ferrari 2+2 for when the sun shines.
