Last weekend SteveR was cool enough to invite me up to the mountains for some 4wheelin' at a place called Jawbone Canyon. We started in the desert and climbed up to over 8000 feet, got into a little snow and even explored an abandoned mine! He even let this old Ferrari guy take the wheel for about 50 miles too! :D

    Good times!

    Thanks Steve!

Um, that's REALLY cool... Looks like a lot of fun... Anything interesting in the abandoned mine...?

All that random rust metal is very reassuring...

Did you go in that thing?

Edit: I mean the mine, not the Hummer!

Yes. It goes back about 300 yards before the intentional cave in.

    It's REALLY dark in there.

That mine is/was the now abandoned Lone Star Mine...it was a "failed" operation...they was lookin' fer Gold in them thar hills!!!

The mineshaft is wide enough to run the Hummers inside....but nobody wants to see what happens when you roll 3-tons of weight with rumbling exhaust into an uncertain situation...

There really isn't anything special inside the mine...just fun to explore, lots of old equipment and a strange unexplained sense of adventure to see what's in there. We also did a lot of offroad racing...Dave threw that H2 around as if it were a race car, it's too much fun jamming through the backroads!!!!

I want to see what would happen to hummers in the mine!!! That would mean less of them on the road :). No offense... Mines are cool, I've been into lots of them out here.

Judging by the rusty metal straps, it looks like the rock is pretty unstable. This is also in Californie, the land of the earthquake, right?....

I'll ride a scoot at 150mph, but I would NOT go in that thing!

Edit: not to mention how many times Lassie had to save Timmy's sorry a$$ in one of those.

It looks like you guys had fun. I love underground stuff. I currently live in Rochester, NY and have explored the abondoned subway there. Where I lived in NJ is ripe with caves and crevices. I have explored several of them as well. That H2 is just so huge!!
