Forgive me if this has already been discussed, but I would love to know how much I would expect to pay in registration costs in California when I pick up a 1999 or 2000 Modena for, say, 130K?

    Thanks.
    :)

may the force be with ya, my 1977 308 came from Cali. and it was $1357.00 to register it. ( i have all the old documents) i paid $18.00 to the DMV here ( Georgia)for a title and they waived the taxes since the car was so old.

Depending on where u live in California, u have the good ol' sales tax of +/- 8% and 1% registration, so on 130k it is around 11,500.

if you buy an out of state car and keep it out of cal for 90 days (i think its 90 days) theres no sales tax, im not sure the exact rules but theres a way to do it where you pay 0 sales tax, search the archives, its been discussed befor

As of 10/1/04 you need to keep it out of state for 1 year to avoid sales tax.

A California car, especially 360 Modena comes with a 7 year/70K miles of extended warranty for emissions and expensive components. The cost of any one of those components if they break within that time frame can easily pay for the extra tax one pays for a California car.
A California car is considered California car when it was sold new in Califonia and was registered in California.

just registered a 2003 360, cost 150,000.00 for the car. registration is $950.00 and worth every penny of it..Also it is true about out of state sales tax issue. Although now you need to have out of state for 1 year as opposed to the 90 days it used to be.
