For those of you in the San Diego area, do you guys think a similar get together of exotic owners would attract some participants somewhere here in the San Diego? I've been wanting to bring my Diablo SV to the Crystal Cove meets, but its quite a haul very early in the morning from San Diego. I've discuss this with some Lambo owners in San Diego. Anyone interested joining us here in SD?

I dunno, but it would be nice. I'm not sure there is as much money down here. FWIW, it takes much less than an hour to get to CC from SD. Leaving at 6:00 ish also leaves you with no traffic.

Crystal Cove is unique. Every week brings cars of various types, eras and conditions.

For us lucky enough to live in the Greater L.A. Metro Area, CC is the appropriate location. It is centrally located for us enthusiasts. I live in Carlsbad (approx. 48 miles South of CC) and driving to Newport Beach is a no-brainer. I personally don't believe that even driving from the U.S.border (an additional 45 miles South) is such a big deal. If you have an exotic - drive it!

So, with that said, sure - have a GTG in San Diego County, people will show. But lower your expectations, for it will not be like CC. CC is unique.

I don't want to be such a downer, but one should realize what we have at CC ... recently, we almost lost the right to gather at that venue due to the locals, so enjoy every time you go ... all good things come (could) to an end.

And BTW, don't you want to let your Raging Bull stretch it's legs through Camp Pendleton? It is a great drive to CC from SD County! Heck, with all your Lambo friends, you should have a "Running with the Bulls THROUGH Camp Pendleton" on the way to CC ... what better way to "get it started".

I nominate Milton's Deli / Flower Hill Mall at Hwy 5 and Via de la Valle in Del Mar, or the Carlsbad Outlet Mall, each one with large parking lot. Both directly off of the 5 Freeway. Any other ideas?
I agree that attendance would be on a much smaller scale than CC.
But it would be fun to have something closer than CC.

You tell me where some Diablos /Ferraris / etc are going to be gathered, and I'll come by!

I'll come. I just have a M3, but hey, people might see a large group of cars and we might start something.

By the way, La Jolla and Rancho Santa Fe are the two most expensive places in the USA to live; plus both are packed with exotics of all types.

I have no asperation on competing with CC. If ever the San Diego meet comes to be, I am aware it will not have the same number of high end cars as CC. However, I think its about time us San Diegans to have our own little exotic car get together.

My car is not a garage queen. I drive it at least once or twice a week, even just to go to the local Blockbusters. It's actually having to wake up so early that is bothering me. In order to make it to CC at 6:30 am, I will have to get up by 4:00 am.

Maybe it's time to move it to San Diego. We do have the great beach weather as Newport Beach. :)

I never find OC to SD a great drive. Going to CC from SD might be ok, since the traffic will be light, but heading home will be a pain. Last year, I drove home from Monterey to San Diego in my SV. From Monterey to Burbank, it only took me 2 hours and 45 minutes. However, the drive from Burbank to San Diego took me 4 hours! That part of the drive was not fun at all.

Milton's and Anderson Pea were the top places we were considering. It offers plenty of parking and a breakfast place to boot.

The last time I went, I got up at 5:15, stopped at Starbucks in LJ, and still made it nearly 30 minutes early!

Though I live near the Carlsbad Company Stores, I would agree that Milton's is a good venue ... okay parking early in the morning, easy access for N/S County folks and has excellant freeway access. And after a little GTG in the morning, a fish taco or two for lunch at the Brigantine is always a go.

    Just a thought.

I'm interested in doing something in San Diego. Another potential place might be Seaport Village Mall downtown, Downtown Rancho Santa Fe, Coronado (there's a park on the right, just after the bridge, towards the hotel entrance, but there are no vendors there, so no coffee or pastries; might be a good place to meet then go to the hotel for breakfast), could also do it at one of the parks along Mission Bay.

I've never been to CC because getting up at 4 am (or whatever) to go up there on a Saturday is just too much. Just my luck that when I do that, no one else shows up.

I would show, Seaport sounds like a good place to have a meet. I don't care too much that Seaport charges for parking, I guess that is the price to pay for having the Gaslamp fixed up and with Petco there now, everyone wants a slice of the action. The Flower Hill mall is a nice suggestion also. Haven't been to CC yet.

I think that the Carlsbad Outlet Mall is the best place. Easy to get to off the 5, lots of free parking and it is in the middle of San Diego County; but not too far for you guys from the OC to come and join us.

All we need to do now is set a date and stick to it; anyone have any suggestions?

i,m in for carlsbad. you know if you had it the same day as C.C. maybe it would give folks a choice as to which place to go, depending on how your morning has gone, or maybe get adventurous and hit both in the same day.just my 2cents.

It will probably have to be after the Chrismas Holidays.

Doing it the same day as CC is a good idea as well. We can make the SD meet around 10 am? The problem might be parking. Carlsbad outlet would be open by then. Any more suggestions?

I think it is a good idea, what do we have to lose by trying it? The locations mentioned, Flower Hill Mall and Carlsbad Outlet Mall are both good. Two locations in La Jolla might work, Costa Verde Shopping Center or LA Jolla Village Square Shopping Mall, both of these are right near the freeway in the University City area.
Are you thinking of a early sunday morning time like CC? I think that would work for most people.

I just got a 348 Spider, and the idea of a local meeting sounds good. Let's keep this thread going. I like Milton's off I-5 in Del Mar. (Great drives east from there after we split up.)

OR, if someone wants to hook up and make the drive to CC sometime, from the looks of the last one, it seems pretty cool. We could get several of us to run up together. Agree it needs to be after the holidays, weather permitting.

    Alright, here's another idea.

We should have the San Diego meet in Carlsbad for sure (it is just too easy to get to) and it should be on the Sunday morning after CC. This way, people can hit both venues or one or the other.

I think a meet that starts around 8:00am would work great, early enough to get the parking but not too late to have the lot filled up with Mall customers.

As stated before, we should begin the SD Meet after the New Year. Not only will this give us enough time to spread the word (start posting on all internet boards guys and gals) but it will give us enough time to talk with security at the Carlsbad Outlet mall (I'll take care of that if you guys wish).

    What do you all think?
