yet another attempt by this nanny bl**dy government to try to control the populous. Most police people seem to agree that detectors actually make you safer 'cos you do slow down!

Next we will have speed inhibitors built into the ECU!! Oh well I guess I'll invest in a Lada!

We must all endevour to drive slower 30 mph should be lowered to 25mph and a maximum of 50mph on motorways. Mr Bunkett has a "white paper" containing those very speeds. There is also a proposal to restrict all cars to those speeds. Enzo with max speed of 50 mph Think of the fuel savings

ha ha. I'd still have my foot planted firmly to the boards, with fuel spewing out the back, still going 50 in the hope the limiter will finally breakdown.

When I read these things, I almost feel guilty about being a motorist let alone, one who drives powerful cars. I have no problem with taking drunk drivers to task or indeed drivers who speed in built up areas were there is a risk to children etc. It does however seem to me that the govenment is hell bent on foresaking any vestage of common sence or using practical ideas to solve the problems. Recently a woman was killed in a crash not far where I live, not the first in this location, is there a camera there ? NO, its three miles up the road in a 30MPH zone !! where to the best of my knowledgr there has never been a fatality. Figure that.
    Stelth tax rules OK

By the way, Dave, I understand there is only one camera on The hallowed Isle, I daughter found it !

what annoys the sh*t out of me is as follows, I drive to the speed limits in built up areas as do the police. I have been a passenger on more than one occasion with the IAM in police cars observing how the police drive. They stick to the limits in built up areas, however the officer driving had no problem doing 110mph on a 60 country road. I asked him why he could do this and I could not. He could not answer this question apart from the fact that the road conditions allowed that speed, as did his car and driving experience

    It isn't quite as bad as it sounds;

"Ministers will continue to allow GPS satellite devices that inform drivers where roadside cameras are positioned. But devices that jam speed cameras by sending out radar signals will be ruled illegal. So will those that detect radar or laser beams emitted by cameras to gauge speed. These also tell motorists whether a roadside camera is live or a dummy."

I'm OK because I use a GPS PDA based detector with no ability to detect emitted beams. I guess if the current devices out there have the facility to turn off beam detection then they can still be used (and who could tell how they are set anyway....)

So whats the difference between roadside camera positions and radar/laser beam camera positions?

I've often wondered whether the laser detector on my Road Angel 2 works, at the height of laziness my BM has a remote control for the SatNav and using that sets the laser detector off. I guess they could use something like that to test whether the system works.

I'll be mighty PXssed off if my RA2 becomes illegal.

I'd be interested in what the increased penalty for uninsured drivers will be. Maybe as much as a £100 fine now???

Tax those who can afford it!

Some (RA2 and Snooper for sure) have radar/laser detectors as well as the GPS thingy. So they will be outlawed I'd say. Better scrub that of my xmas list...

The RA1 had a detachable radar/laser detector which would be better in this instance.

But it will be very hard to police.

But from what Babylon said, the laser detectors are rubbish anyway!

More sinister and ludicrous to my mind are the new speeding penalties, which implicitly mean it's safer to do 40 in a 30 rather than 90 on the motorway...

I have a Road Angel and an older Snooper. Thinking that the Road Angel was a better option I blasted down to Devon and promptly got caught at exactly 100mph by a mobile gatso. The older Snooper might have given some warning but Road Angel cannot detect them!!

I have yet to go to court. But since I was not exceeding 100mph I have been told I will probably get 3-6 points and a welcoming fine! First offense too.

The moral. Don't rely on these bloody gadgets. Drive fast only where you know the roads very well.

It just is not worth losing your license -

    - and the government get too much money from us anyway.

I think we're all targeted by the cops anyway.

    Amen to that.

I personally favour the 'recce' approach- drive one way down a favoured road, scoping it out, then turn around and nail it!

And don't drive in Northampton. On sunday morning, I passed no less than 2 truvelos, a gatso and a 'safety' camera van in the space of 5 miles.

I'm sorry to say guys that I have been warning you a clamp down is about to be put on Europe wide motoring. The same radar unit is illegal in all of the rest of Europe, that is why you are fined, they are often confiscated if they are portable. Now guys, don't lose too much sleep, we are a group of voters, so this will not come in until after the next election. So write now and tell Tony and his mates he will not be able to count on you if they press ahead with banning what you believe is safety first driving implement. What do they want, slower cars in sensitive areas. Great, what will they do then, put 1,000's of Police men out with radar guns all over the roads to achieve the same level of suppresion in places with little or no need. Its the money they need it has nothing to do with death or speeding - this is what is true.

Personally, I don't use the things, if you have to drive with speed radar warning aids you are going to speed. I hate to say this again, you must start to police yourselves on the roads, the system is about to turn against motorists, vote anything but Labour if you want anything else. The worst fear is that you can be fined and have points put on your licence even when you are abroad, stickers on cars the lot, I spoke last week, you are seeing just the tip of the iceburg this week, you can not argue with the facts?

You ain't seen nothing yet, they are just warming up, the motorist will be funding the governments high spending budgets because Brown lost 60% of his revenue last year alone. We won't charge VAT on the profits of Band Aids Record, What a joke. Welcome to Socialism folks. What you have is a lovely expensive motor car, you can afford to pay for government stupidity, we can finance windmills with it, absolutely crap b--lsh-t - "Never mind, the brit public are too stupid to challenge us, after all we are the Labour Party". What was it Tony claimed, we are the PEOPLES PARTY - Bu--sh-t

Who thinks I am scaremongering now?

To one and all of my motorist friends, KNOW WHO YOUR FRIENDS ARE this has been known about for months, 12 to be precise, they are ganging up on us - motorists -across Europe. We are an easy touch for cash, smoking down, beer drinking down, where will they get the mega bucks from to fund their wasteful programmes, us bloody motorists. Even usually nice reserved Ireland are in on it.

    David,

You and my father would get on famously... he's been hopping around delightedly for the last two yrs saying "see! I warned everyone this is what would happen if the bloody socialists got in!". He reckons the whole of the EU is a socialist racket.

I do agree with you, but fear that no goverment will be any better.

These guys speak a lot of sense http://www.abd.org.uk, and are the only effective lobby I know of.

The trouble is, anyone who dares speak out gets labelled by the Media as people who like to mow down children in fast cars, for fun. The concept of "appropriate speed" does not exist, just the lowest common denominator approach. Which is what socialism is all about.

    Robert.

Your father is absolutely right, however, I can not say it that clearly for obvious reasons, I earn my living within their area.

Don't get too focused on radar detectors, whilst you are watching the Birdie you will miss the slight of hand pulling your wallet out of your pocket, Just take stock of what you are facing now and in the future and start to look at how best you can address this situation with most force and power. Get yourself a leader of men who represents you, Even Jeremy Clarkson, empower him and let him take the heat, he loves it and deserves the support for his efforts, he keeps the devil in place sometimes as he has the media ear.

Start your lobbying now. The fuel boys would help.

    Lets be bloody radical. Yeh

£100, steady on now, if they cant afford to insure the car how can they possibly afford to pay the fine? Thats why this socialist mob wont get their teeth into this.

My son says that 20% of cars driven by 18 to 25 yr olds are uninsured, dont know where he got that from....any thoughts?
