I put new triple seals in tonight on my 91' 348. I dunked them in boiling water as suggested by others and used my fingers to get them over the splines of the output shaft. When they rested in their little niches...they were pretty stretched out. I could not slide the output shaft back in...so i took a hose clamp and clamped over each one and it seem to shrink them small enough to slide them in the output shaft. I figure when they sit in there they will shrink some more. Just wondering if anyone else has done this and if it is a big no-no...please let me know before I put it back together (clutch pack has been shipped out to have everything done on it...repacked flywheel, resurfaced flywheel, and clutch plates getting more material on it)

    Aaron,

    Mine were stretched also.

Reformed using fingers and then slid back into shaft.

It was a tight squeeze but the shaft did the rest of the work. Once it is re-installed it should be fine.

Has a picture of the ferrari tool for this job ever been posted? I'd be interested in seeing it.

Tmobile: Thanks for the regular postings on this project. You and a few others are helping prepare the rest of us to cross this bridge.

The Ferrari tool for that job in a word, sucks. Good work though what you did is almost exactly what we do. Actually we usually wrap the seals in shim stock and then clamp, after a minute or so the seals will have shrunk enough to slide the shaft in. You can slide it back out right away to ck the seals, once it has been in once it will just go right back.

I manage to locate the seal that I need, so I am not going to have to replace the whole slave / T.O. bearing assembly. This is what have a learned (although might not fully be correct)

It seems to me that there were 3 updates for the 348's (not sure if this the same for the single plate clutch but this the case for the dual plate clutch)

There was the first slave cylinder- TO Bearing kit which is NOT the one i have

There was an update to that one which what I have

There was an update to that one which is what they used on the 355's

The last update is easily distinguished between the first two because the slave seals (which is under the slave guide pin which is the seal closest to the front of the car with the Slave/TO bearing on the car) is a blue-aqua color

The other two it took me a while (to distinguish between) and even most of the Ferrari parts guys i called could not tell the difference. I finally called Ferrari of Atlanta and we figured it out. That same seal that is under the guide pin is a different thickness between the two updates....on the earlier it was about a 5mm thickness and had a blue paint line on it. On the updated one it was about 6.5mm thickness and did not have the paint line and was grooved on the inside of it. The part number for the first is 139436 (cost 8.98 from TRutlands). The later one I have not recieved yet from the dealer and while post that part number when i recieve it (cost $17). They do still sell both seals. This is where my brake fluid was leaking from so i am assuming that it might be pretty common...
hope this helps anyone and if anyone wants to correct me or add please do so.

I am posting this because I was about to drop 1300 bucks on a new assembly when I think mine is fine and just needed that one seal. Now i am dropping $17 bucks. Maybe this info will save someone else from having to buy the whole new updated assembly also.

    Aaron,

    thanks - this is perfect.

When mine was leaking slightly is was from the rear of the slave cylinder so I suspect its the same problem as you had. Mine is a 91 also.

It makes me feel I may be able to do this far cheaper.

    Cheers

    John
