I know that Mondial electical system is a nest for gremlins, but was wondering if anyone has had this problem. When I turn the igniton key to the second position the clock will light up and it will show the correct time. However, on the third position (crank up engine) it will reset to zero and start blinking again. So I know the clock is maintaining memory when the car is turned off, it's just that moment when I start the motor that it's losing it.

Any ideas what is causing this?

    Thanks!

Just a guess, but I would imagine that the enormous amount of current drawn by the starter motor is dropping the voltage at the clock enough to reset it. Since they are on different circuits and the big wire to the starter does not go through the fuse box anyway, you can rule out the fusebox (#1 cause of most older Ferrari electrical issues!!)

I would suggest that the battery in your car is getting old and/or is not in a good state of charge. Put it on a charge all night and see what it does. If the battery is a few years old, replace it.

Mine does something very similar, Come to it sometimes, switch on ignition and clock is correct, drive off, use wipers or something and clock resets itself.
The battery has been replaced on the car and I think everything else works fine. It's a mystery to me also. I have checked all the fuses etc and the conclusion I have come to is rewire it thru a different system. The fuse is the same as the Hazards and roof light I thing.

My '85 Mondial started resetting the clock every time I start, now that I have installed a new battery. I have checked the fuses, ground wires, etc. Any ideas?

Actually, the clock resets when I turn the ignition to the RUN position, but BEFORE engaging the starter motor.

Obviously there is something causing it to lose power for a short moment as you turn the key...the "quick and dirty" would be to wire a "work around" directly to the battery...just make sure to put a small in-line fuse of 1.5 or 2 amps.
