i wanna go
I go to AAA NJ every 3 years for the insurance deduction. $50 for one *boring* saturday. *nothing* of interest comes out of that class. But it's worth the insurance deduction. 5-10% off various pieces of insurance. Last time I went, class broke for lunch, student came back with story of being stopped by a cop for speeding right outside of the AAA building. He told the officer he was attending class & the officer let him slide with a warning. LOL. I wonder if the skip barber qualifies as "Driving School" for points or insurance reduction?
Wow, that is not that bad. Although it is high it is not as bad as it could be. Good luck with the tickets. Let me know what happens.
You know, that is pretty funny because I had just heard the same thing but in addition I heard that if you mention Lupe's name, the judge will not only throw out the tickets but he will bow down to you and make sure you never get a ticket in that state again.
guys, if you want I know of a school that charges $70 and you don't have to go to the class. it does take a few weeks to get the certificate though. anyone want it done, let me know.
yo...im down for that. ive never been to traffic school before, but once u get the certificate, u just mail it in to the DMV and they will deduct points?
I'm not sure how the point reduction thing works (i have no points ), I did the insurance reduction thing. I just had to fax a copy to the insurance co. However, I believe it's the same certificate/ class for both Maybe the school reports directly to the albany DMV place? Seriously, you guys dont even have to go to the school if you're comfortable sending me your info. I will get more info by tomorrow...
In NJ, the class participation gets sent in several weeks to Trenton where they take several months to apply it to your license. In class, they usually say to check on it 4 months after class completion. A certificate is mailed several weeks after class confirming attendance.
Thanks for the info Clyde. T, Hubert, and whoever else in interested, Give me till tomorrow to organize everything and get the final info regarding the "class". I would do it today but I'm SO SO SWAMPED with papers and **** due tonight at 6:50. Procrastination at it's best
Me, John and Young are interested in the school. I have no points but since all the cars are under my name the insurance deductible would be nice. I'll PM you my info. Henry
I currently have 12 points on my license; I was convicted on 11/01 and acquired 10 points (that's another story), bringing the total to 12. I was not suspended because the judge waived the suspension. Took the accident-prevention course 11/07/2004. The points havent been reduced thus far. I called "driver improvement" up in Albany, and found out that they are currently processing course completions as of early October. They are very slow. And the people on the phone are very nasty. This is quite inconvenient because it would be nice to be down to 8 points by December 20th, when I have a 2-point violation hearing. So be careful about whether you think you will actually be helped by taking the course. That is, your points MIGHT NOT get reduced! The people up in albany said that NO points that have to do with speeding are reduced. And here's something else that's confusing. At the accident-prevention course, the instructor--who touted himself as having expert knowledge on the subject--said that points will NOT be reduced UNLESS you have 11 or more. So if you've got 10, you don't get a reduction after course completion. Then, the person on the phone up in Albany told me that 4 points are reduced no matter what (unless the points came from speeding). So what's the real answer? The bureacracy in New York State government is out of control. I cannot even get a simple, consistent answer with respect to the points issue.
Glad Hubi finally threw this on - have been discussing going to a school for a while. Hubi, you and I are in the same boat (I think). We've got two things we'd ideally like to achieve by going to school: (i) reduction of points in NJ, and (ii) a reduction of insurance premiums. To the first point, it may make more sense to take a course offered by an institution based in NJ, since it is unclear as to whether taking a course by one in NY will allow you to reduce points recorded in NJ. Taking a course in either state should allow you to get a reduction in insurance premiums, although this will need to be verified as well. Dave, to your post, my understanding is that taking a course will reduce your points, regardless of how many you have, although the range of the deduction has varied from 1 - 3 points, depending on who you ask. Happy to research this with you in the New Year. Let's get this going zEn!
Just got off the phone from AAA on their points reduction class. If you are a NJ person..... Take the course, 2 weeks later they send the class attendance to *Trenton ONLY*. Trenton should process the point reduction in a few weeks. If I had New York points, they are transferred (not copied) to NJ license where the course would help to reduce them. New York no longer has the points so the course would not do anything for NY. If a NJ person took the course in NY, it would be of no value for state points. You can only take the course once every three years for point reduction. NY: AAA is researching, but they think the points *are* transferred from NJ to NY. so taking a class in NJ would be useless...and the class registration goes only to trenton...so NY would never know. They don't think taking a class in NJ would do anything for NY as NJ supposedly doesn't keep records of NY driver offenses (except to collect fees). Insurance companies: are a whole 'nother ball of wax. talk to your insurance company on how they treat points & classes. Each company has it's own rules.
vik... im not going to take a NJ traffic class.....only sticking with the NY classes. **** dem jersey points is what im thinking. from what u and i have seen, nj tickets DO NOT transfer over to your ny license. maybe if i get another ticket in jersey (*knock on wood*) then would i consider taking a jersey class
Both Hubi's and my experiences bear differently Clyde. We've both got points in NJ, yet our NY transcripts show no points related to that incident. Hubi, I didn't realize you had additional NY points you want to address. My NY abstract is clean so I'm going to work to get those Jersey points off. Clyde, just to clarify: Jersey points = Jersey AAA class, even if you're living in NY, right?
Well, that's the bureaucratic rub. TripleA just called back to confirm (they said they called their NY office to confirm)...NJ points to transfer to NY (hey, don't hate the playa, hate the bad info he gets) and that you should only take the driver class in the state that issued the license. So, they say NY License gets NJ points should not take a class in NJ, but take it in NY because the NJ points become NY. Again...that's AAA. As with the NYC & NJ websites....what they state and what we actually see are different. It might be interesting to have one of youse NewYawkers drop by a NJ DMV & see if they can run your license...and see if there are any "points". Somebody with points want to PM me their license number and I'll see if I can drop by a DMV tomorrow...I'll try & check for you.
