I'm the new guy Dusty mentioned in his post yesterday. I'm new to F-cars and F-chat. I know this question leaves me open to some interesting answers, but what's everybodys opinion on the clear bra? Also, what's the best place to find out about events such as drives, shows etc?

There are several versions of the mylar protection. I'd go to a meet, see the various cars with the protection on them, and make a decision as to which you'd use. I've got the 3M version, which also covers my lights on the Modena. There are some spots which aren't covered, and guess what, the rocks have radar, so I've got a few small marks. I'd still do it again, my 355's nose had to be repainted yearly (I drive about 7k per year with the F-car), and this means that probably won't need paint for at least 3, 4 years, maybe never.

I just had my 996TT covered with a clearbra. This company did not use 3M, but a brand named Venture. The owner showed me the difference between the two as far as clarity goes, the Venture clearbra is much clearer. 3M has a noticeable orange peel effect that would not look good on darker paints. He also tested both films in front of me. I had a screwdriver in my hand and tried to puncture the both films. 3M went right through in a few seconds, but I could not poke through the Venture clearbra at all. That sold me right on the spot.

In about 2 feet away, I couldn't see the film at all. I've had it on my 04 M3 for a yr now and no rock chips at all. I highly recommend you get a clearbra before the rocks go after your bumper. The company I got my clearbra from is Premier and their contact number is 510-390-6920. Tell them John with the M3 and 996 referred you. These guys are perfectionists to the heart. My friend had his 360 done along with my 996 and both cars came out great!

    here's my experience.

With a film protection, if you take a hit from a rock no chip. If you take the film off the paint may come off with it where the paint is damaged.

Films do yellow from what I see...no matter what they tell you.

I still use it. I can drive without having to look at my friggin' bumper every day for damage. It is freeing to me.

There is a new 3M film called Aero that has no orange peel. Maybe it doesn't yellow? I had Envisage out it on my Stradale and you can't tell. If you put it on the front hood there will always be a line of course. They did my Spider too.

Make sure to have any fine scratches polished out before you do it. What is there will stay there. If you have big chips already...not sure what you should do.

I appreciate the input. I think I'll definitely go with a clearbra. I'll sleep better knowing it's there.

One of the only downsides to these films is that they cause your paint to fade at a different rates. They work great if you drive your car quite a bit and on the track.

Is there less fading on a lighter colored car or doesn't it matter? Am I going to have a two tone titanium car?

I just put the aerospace film on a GT3 that I have. You can barely see it. I feel so much better knowing that it takes the hit at the track not the paint. Highly recommended. I got the full package too. I mi\ght piut it on the 550 but I am still deciding.

Flat colors like red and yellow will fade more. Metallics will be a bit less.

I like the idea of a clear bra. Is a blouse optional?

Call Arling at Lucent motor on sepulveda in WLA. they take it to a clean room in Torrance. I am VERY glad I did it. At first I was hesitant since i didn't want to screw up the way the car looked. in hind sight it was a no brainer, especially if you take the car to the track....but even if you don't it is still the way to go beleive me.

I actually posted this 3 months ago and have since had the bra installed. It looks great and has saved me numerous stone chips.
