Is the special clutch tool definitely required ??

    I got one for the timing gear drive pulley, one for the steering wheel, and one for the clutch drive gear. I'll lend it to you, but you have to pay for the shipping both ways, and promise to give it back.

    Here is a wild idea i'll throw out, i was in a local auto store and saw a few differnt sizes of the 4x4 hub disconnect tool, can one fit the 308 clutch
    ring nut ??
    Does anyone the the spec. of either the nut or the tool ?
    They have 4 pin models... but the shown one is a 6 pin.
    The cost is $12.99 so it's worth checking out.

    Thanks,over the years I've managed to acquire a complete set of the ring nut tools. Some are a tad used, but still have life in them. (I'm cheap, got most from eBAY or some PO who had no further use for the tool.) Don't know why Birdman's worried as he knows he can mooch off of me. Hmm, maybe I should plan a small phenomenal rental fee just for him.(Hehehe)...

    (Actually I know he's trying to get something going for the whole Fchat population. Does seem silly to pay premium prices for special tools you'll probably only use once or twice.)

    Mark, I'm trying to sell my house and have packed a bunch of stuff off to storage to clean-up.....the tools appear to be among that stuff. Monday I will be running more stuff over to storage, I'll take a look for them and snap pictures if/when I find them. I made a full set of them while trying to rebuild my engine/trans.

    the clutch alignment is a snap----

    you do not need splines--just something the inside diameter of them
    have your local machinist make you one of these--took me 20 mins to do

    large diameter fits in P-Plate hole, middle diameter holds disc, small diameter slides into pilot bearing

    I discovered that the plastic tool that comes with an Rx-7 clutch works just fine. The pilot bearing tip is a good fit, & the much finer MAZDA splines fit inside the 308 clutch splines & align it.

    There are probably others that fit as well. Take your clutch disc & new pilot bearing to AutoZone & see which one of their loaner clutch alignment tools fits.

    Others have reported using a GM 12-spline tool that is an exact fit for the splines & have built up the pilot bearing tip with tape.

    BTW, Atlantaman, could you post the diameters for the 3 sections of your tool?
