I was not sure if I could post here because, as stated in the main thread, I am still do not know if I will be able to attend the rally or not. But perhaps it is good to share my poiint of view. Frankly I beliebe that Trevi point on the spirit of the rally is the most important here. What I REALLY loved in Andermatt was the approach of all the partecipants. No formalities, just people with the same passion being together to share enthusiasm over the same subject in a formality-free environment. I do not say that staying at a top place like Culloden will prevent the same approach, as Wolfgang says a touch of Class is allways welocome, but certainly I feel more relaxed at Pius-like venues than somewhere where I have to wear jacket for dinner. I have started to look in to venues which are more centrally located, in the heart of the town/city we are basing ourselves. I agree with Trevi's philosophy. No jackets for dinner, Eugenio - i will make it a (santa) clause. At the same time I will find nice places for us to tear to pieces!

OK I just looked at the prices to Hull and I was wrong...its not 300euros cheaper its nearly 700euros cheaper. Going out on the monday and traveling back on the saturday night with a standard 2 bearth cabin is 123pound. www.poferries.com
you have to scroll down a bit. it's 197.50 for the passage plus 322 for the LC standard 2 berth, makes a total of 519.50 calculated for departure on august 2 and return on august 7
How have you calculated this Trevi???? You have to insert the car manufactor and type. There is sadly NO Ferrari or Lamborghini listed NO way to book for us
but you're right, the drive up from hull to edingburh might well be worth it for more than 300 savings.
Seems like the general consensus is to be somewhere with access to locals - especially for Ton - so I am thinking a centrally located venue with it's own space for us to chill out in if that is the preference...best of both worlds. Finding one with suitable parking might be anothyer matter! Will report back my findings. I think it is something to do with a perving factor.
Marc, I think there are locals and local. Just thinking back to the other rallies, we were in or just outside small villages in the country side. We could easily get to where the locals hang out. These wearn't towns or cities.
i don't think that it has to be a big city's downtown, a nice village with a couple nice bars and drink holes is ok too
Yeah you are right Trevi...I calculated the accomodation in the first time I did it thats why I came up with the 300euro saving, but forgot the second time.
Exactly...IMHO we need to be away from the big towns and in the countryside where the good pubs, people and roads are.

Out of the cities people are happy to see and talk to tourist...even to Wolfgang . In the towns nobody gives a **** if some possers in Fcars turn up. On top of that we will be paying tourist prices for parking, over rated hotels and poor service and food. Can you imagine sitting and talking, drinking with the manager of a Best Western or Holiday Inn like we did with Pius in Andermatt? These sort of small family run places are always out in the sticks Just my 2c.
especially in scotland, which is famous for its superb landscape. nothing against a drive through though in edinburgh, making a lot of noise and having a nice drink before heading out again
