I have been looking around and these seem really quite nice. What are members thoughts on them? Also where can one find them for sale? I can't seem to find any for sale aside from the one at Symbolic. Thanks guys.

Gorgeous vintage Ferrari! :) :) I picked Wayne's brain a little about them offline. I like the single headlight per side look far better.

The 330GT 2+2 Mk1 & Mk2 are very under-rated Ferraris, the main differences between the two are the Mk1 had twin headlights, a four speed gearbox with overdrive where as the Mk2 had single headlights and a five speed gearbox. The body styling was changed (for the better) on the Mk2 - apart from that there are very alike.

They made a total of 500 Mk1's between 1964-1965 and
    575 Mk2's between 1965-1966

Interesting, how do these cars compare to 250GTEs in terms of ease of drive, as well as reliablity etc?

The black one we had at Symbolic is sold.

You should take a look at our web site and review the new red one that I finally got from a friend after years of trying. Very cool car with extremely low mileage and all records from new.

Definately one of the best 330s we have ever come across and nice to have one with the Ferrari Factory documentation and records going back to day one.

    The web site is www.symbolicmotors.com

Call me on my mobile phone if you want more details; 619 840 7811.

    Good luck in your search.

My series one 330 drives alot like a old jaguar-supple suspension, strong engine, corners like a 60's car (not very high lateral limits but steerable with the throttle). Check out the latest Forza for a nice article on an early 330.
The advantages of the later single headlight type other than looks is the 5spd gearbox which dispenses with the potentially troublesome electric OD (though mine works great), and the change in pedal clusters from floor hinged, which gets the master cylinder further away from road grime. They are more expensive though.
Does anyone now what the symbolic one went for (ballpark)? That had to be one of the nicest ones out there.
Mine always starts, runs great, and while holding that big wooden wheel, I can't see the four headlights.
Maybe someone has a picture of the 1963 Pininfarina Sigma Prototipo, which shares the 4 headlight design of the 330. Supposed to be a safety thing, and is mentioned in the 64 brochure as making high speed night driving easier.

Thanks Tony, I wonder, how do they compare to GTEs? Also how is the gear box? Are all the gears except reverse have synchros?

I dont honestly see what the problem is with the styling of the 4 headlight 330. To me, it is really distinctive with an aggressive look,
and less cluttered with little bumperettes and other added trim details. But, I'm not knocking the 2 headlight version. In my Ferrari search, I couldn't afford to be too picky and a 2 headlight would have done just as well. I just ended up with the 4HL because it was the best car at the right price at the right time.

I own a Series 1 330GT and I love the way it looks, I don't feel the need to follow the pack and let others misguided asthetics color my view of a very cool looking car.

The Series 1 330GT and the 250GTE are fairly similar in their driving
characteristics though the 330 is more torquey and faster. The suspension and the brakes feel the same, the cars don't feel that different in terms of weight, though the GTE is supposed to be a couple 100 pounds lighter. Furthermore, I have driven a couple of 330 America's also and they don't seem different then the Series 1 330's, not faster or lighter or nimbler. I have only driven one Series 2 330GT and I thought that was a lot different in comparison. The brakes were much better, the clutch was much much harder and the car felt more like a luxury cruiser. Now the suspension on both cars is the same but the GTE's seemed to me much more similar to the series 1 330GT then the Series 1 to the Series 2 330 I drove. Could have been just that one car.

They are great cars, a lot of fun to drive. It always puts a smile on my face to drive it though my other car is an Audi S4 and much more able then the Ferrari. Driving the Ferrari is an event, whereas the Audi is just quick transportation.

. . . hits the nail on the head. that will become my standard rejoinder for why I drive/worship a 36 year old quirky car

Agree. My 330 2+2 is a very early one and shares many details and a general character with predecessor cars -Borranis, painted dash, no power anything, cleaner body detailing, OD and floor mounted pedals, mostly all chrome interior fittings, etc.

Very much a performance machine with a lot of "vintage atmosphere" as opposed to a luxury barge.

I was talking to a guy who was quite interested in buying a later model, a 328 or 348, for himself and more generally knowledgeable than average on Ferraris. He admired my car quite thoroughly but then commented "...but it has those four headlights". I opined that beauty is in the eye of the beholder and told him that there is probably a 50/50 opinion split among 330 enthusiasts about which is better looking.

And yes, any drive is an event to be anticipated.

By the way, I'm looking for the rubber insert for the bumper overrider. Any leads?
