First of all, Merry Christmas, everybody. Hope that didn't offend anybody!

I'm looking for a better solution for my crappy, original, oval-shaped (Tornado?) side-view mirrors. Hopefully they would bolt right into the current door mount holes.

They don't need to be motorized, but I'd like them to be a bit larger--I don't mind a rectangular-shaped, like the later 308s have.

Most important, they must not VIBRATE or FOLD BACK UNDER ACCELERATION!!

Is there a reasonably-priced aftermarket application out there?

I have nothing to really add other than to say, Merry Christmas......and not really care about who might get offended.

One point I'd make is that the mounting location of the mirror on the door skin can be the bigger source of the "vibration" problem than the mirror assembly itself -- at least it was on my (resprayed) ex-308. Can anyone confirm/deny that mine were mounting further back than "stock"? I've always thought that the LH driver should be looking thru the RH front quarter window to see the RH side mirror.

I bought the 'California Mirrors'. I am sure you could do a google and find them. They look great!

I have the California's and even though I was marked off for them at CI and am almost certain they were put on the car by the delarer as part of the series II upgrade. It only had one and the PO put another one on the other side they are beautiful and were standard on the Euro cars but are of little visual use, however you can buy ones now that have a convex mirror in them. I have been thinking of. But let notforget Rual Julia's classic line in the Gumbal Rally about Italian motoring as he ripped of the rearview mirror :)

That being said I enjoy the 360 rear vision in the gt4.

And Yes Happy Holidays to all, I know eveyone (well not everyone) is pissed at California but today in Ventura it is about 75 degress and beautiful, thinking of going for a ride before the festivities begin!!!!

    Steve,
Yours are mounted where mine are. Kind of low to me, but where else could we mount them, on the a-pillar?

    I agree Robert,
I have a euro 308 and the side mirrors are very small (almost useless) they do however have a nice little prancing horse emblem on the back side that I think looks pretty cool.

I have a different style on mine and they actually work well and fit the style too. The only problem is they are cosmetically shot. They were sprayed body color which is fine but the outer plastic rim was deteriorating badly. I cleaned them up and painted them but they still look terrible. If anyone can find a new set for me I'd be your new best friend!! I can't find them anywhere???

Yes your mirror looks the proper height but is about 3" too far back, it should line up with the front small window, I assume the drivers mirror was located in the same spot on the drivers side.

These are the exact mirrors I also retro-fitted to my 914...I have an extra set on my car gear rack at home. The style Vitaloni mirrors I see in your photo are fairly easy to find...in fact I picked mine up at a "local" auto parts store in Palm Springs, CA. I'm living with the stock Tornado mirror on my 308, it was less than I was used to...but now that I've trained my eyes to scan with the car's ergonomics, it's adequate.

Yes, the LH (driver's) side mirror was in the same relative position. Doesn't anyone have similar shots of other '76~'79 308GTB/S side mirror placements for comparison?
