308 FUSE BLOCK BUILD UP

I'll be happy to build you a set for cheap money. I have all the templates made, the materials gathered, and I have made several sets for other FChatters recently, including Mike Charness. Drop me a PM and we'll see what we can do. My fuse blocks are plug and play! I will send you everything including new shorter mounting screws. The only thing you need to do is buy fuses, move wires, 4 screws and you are done.

You gottal love this place!! I would have taken that offer about 6 months ago!

I did mine and the only problem I had was finding enough of the splitters to get the job done. I finally had to buy three or four packs of assorted connectors to get enough of them. Once you get it all set up just transfer the wires one block at a time. I took lots of pics but it wound up being pretty easy cause the wires have been there so long they almost tell you where they're supoposed to go!

 

When I did mine I just numbered the wires left to right according to which terminal they went on. It was simple.

I got started with making these fuse blocks for Fchatters by accident. I made them for myself and posted some tips. Someone lacking the tools to build them himself e-mailed me and asked if I would make him some. So I made a drilling template so I make the bracket easily and reliably. I put the word out and now I have done quite a few of them. Everyone that has them loves them. It's not all that high tech, just a fuse block, but the OEM ones suck so bad, it is a wonderful improvement to reliability. I have had zero electrical issues since I replaced my fuse blocks.

I used a similar approach and it works very well. I do see some improvements and am now considering looking at the mini blade fuses. Have not prototyped it yet but found a few holders available. Found this in england and would use the 10 section block. Know there are others but just need the time to evaluate .

Surface mount fuse box. Side entry 6.3mm male blade contacts. Transparent cover fixed by central screw. 4 & 6 way single cover. 8, 10 & 12 way has a two-piece cover. Dims:W:52mm, H:42+9mm

When I came up with this repair I went through dozens of fuse block catalogues looking for matches and options. I was blue in the face from staring at charts. I went with this setup because it has 2 main advantages:

1. The parts are readily available.

2. The finished fuse box fits perfectly in the OEM mounting holes and can be removed and replaced easily (less than 10 mins) with no damage to the originallity of the car.

The fuse blocks I build are based on Nuvolari's design except I solder the "bus bars" at the top rather than using splitters. Other than that, they are just like his.

Michael,
Just don't forget that some of the holders need to be "jumpered" or bridged together. That's how the stock panel can have one wire in and several out. I soldered a piece of solid wire across the terminals to accomplish this. Once you remove the old panel you can see which ones get bridged.

EDIT: Should have looked at Birdman's web-site first, it looks like they come with the jumpers already installed!

Yes, and to complicate matters, the carb and injected cars have slightly different arrangements of "jumpers" (I call them Bus Bars). That's why I need to know which year 308 the fuse blocks are for in order to make a set. I have actually made several of these for both QV's and carbed cars, but never a 2 valve injected car. So the first person to want a set for a 2 valve injected 308 will need to send me pics of the backs of the stock units so I'll know what the pattern is. I solder 12 guage solid copper wire across the backs of them for bus bars. Soldering means never having to worry about a loose connection in the bus bars.

I did the same thing in fact I probably got the idea from you!! I also liked it better than the jumpers as there are too many wires there to keep straight already and I couldn't find enough of the splitters anyway. Simple is sometimes elegant!
