I am planning a roundtrip to two mythical places, the old Nürburgring's Nordschleife and Spa-Francorchamps. The plan is: - Wed 07/20 Lausanne-Nürburg (around 650km) - Thu 07/21 Nordschleife (Ring Taxi + a few careful laps), drive to Spa late afternoon (120km) - Fri 07/22 Trackday in Spa Francorchamps then drive back to Switzerland on Saturday, with a possible stop somewhere (Schlumpf Museum or some scenic place in Alsace) Both tracks are as famous as they are dangerous, tragic accidents take place there every year, humility, respect and due care are on the agenda. This is more about "touristic curiosity" than having a blast on such challenging tracks. This won't be a formally organized event, it's not about food, drinks or partying, but if someone wants to join, have a lap in the Ring Taxi or see l'Eau Rouge from a 550 passenger seat, you are welcome to pencil the dates in. Dates to be confirmed once the Nürburgring calendar is published. Will post when registration for the Spa trackday opens.
We have lost there 2 dear friends during our first ferrarichat.com european meeting in 2003. Jens & Amar died both together in a horrible crash at the Nordschleife. R.I.P.
ouch, sooooo bad... but live must go on, ZE shark, it's possible for me to meet you at Spa If you want, (i don't know what you plan for the sathurday) i can show you the country road near spa
Bob, you're right and we should never forget how the Nurbur took so many drivers over the years. But that in mind, it's still a great opportunity to go there and drive that track WITHOUT trying to break the lap record...lol I sure would like to go back there and "relive" the many races I did there, bike and cars..Have fun and be safe Roland F40LM
Very tempting and one day, you'll will see me back..I'm still so busy "playing" here that I can't leave now. I'm prepairing a P.car for Sebring in February ! The season starts so early here.. Have fun out there Roland F40LM
Quick update. Nordschleife tourist openings are not playing out ideally, so my plan is - Thu July 21st: drive to Francorchamps, stay at hotel nearby (561km through France & Luxembourg, more but perhaps faster through Germany) - Fri July 22nd: half day track day at Spa (3x20 minutes) - after the 3rd session drive to the Nürburgring (115km) - afternoon on and around the Nordschleife (opening 14:15 till 19:30) - stay at hotel nearby - program for Sat morning TBD, the Nordschleife is closed till late afternoon, but there's certainly some sightseeing to do around. Not ideal, but the Nordschleife is only open 17:45-19:30 on Thu 21st. A bit knapp to have the time to take things easy and drive in good light conditions. If someone is interested in registering for the track day, http://www.marc-duez.be/testday2005/index.htm. I picked the intermediate group to be done with the 3rd session soon enough.
Thanks for the link! There's a possibility i'll also register for the track day! It's a good thing that there will be 3 groups according experience! It means less tracktime BUT it's much safer than everyone at the same time on the track! I've already driven at Spa but i'm still no expert so i would also pick the intermediate group! But i would also love to have a ride as a passenger in your 550 Maranello! I can't offer you a F-car ride back though, hope an S2000 ride is good enough? CIAO Guy
might make it to spa as well if you guys are serious. no F-car sadly, a porsche 924 carrera GT might be possible. or i could take my own car (chevrolet monza) and make myself ridiculous! @wolfgang, sorry to hear about the Nring accident. may your friends RIP and live on in your memories
Ooops http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=56886 Seems that the Eifel is not going to be as quiet as I hoped on Fri July 22nd. With this event nearby, the place is bound to be a lot busier than I would hope.
Be warned: when you go for some rounds with your Ferrari at the Nürburgring, many folks with their M3's etc will follow you and try to show you how fast they are and how slow you are. Ignore them and drive careful. You need many, many track days to know the ring.
hello mate, myself and 4 cars (3 other fchatters) are doing full day at spa on the 21st and the ring on 22nd. DOnt think spa is open on the 22nd mate, may be worth checking, we are also doing magny cours on the 19th july, you can book that through www.easytrack.co.uk if yer interested, i'll be in my subaru track laugh car what ya taking Image Unavailable, Please Login
depends whos driving scooby is 305bhp 0-60 in 4.6 seconds, and 4 wheel drive its so much fun on wet days
well i can bring my own feedback here (although my impreza is "only" a 265ps model) : ferrari probably marginally quicker, also more fun to drive, as the other one understeers, unless hugely provoked... However the f-car is more of a handful to drive, especially when coming out of corners and accelerating early. F
Wow wow wow guys, no thread hijacking pleeeze. If you want to open up a debate on the relative merits of Imprezas and Modenas, you're welcome to do so ... in another thread ! Thanks for the hint on the Spa trackday on Thu 21st, a better plan than Marc Duez track day on Friday, but the Modena yadiyada on the adjacent GP track makes me fear that the Nordschleife is not going to be as quiet as I would hope it to be for a few discovery laps.
Hello mate ;-) Not sure we're talking about the same month ? There is a track day in Spa on July 22nd (http://www.marc-duez.be/testday2005/index.htm). Can you pls share who is organizing this 07/21 track day in Spa ? Still concerned about the crowd around the Nurburgring on the 22nd due to the event on the F1 track. Looking at alternate dates, if you exclude week-ends, the Ring is open on: Mon 06/13 Fri 06/17 Mon 06/20 Fri 06/24 Mon 06/27 Mon 07/04 Mon 07/18 Fri 07/22 Mon 07/25 (full afternoon sessions)
