Be careful when choosing puppies by seeing how they interact with you and your family. Some of the most precocious, friendly ones turn out to be a real handful. They are usually alpha males, and though it's really cute how they push everyone aside to burrow in your sleeve, they will demand the most attention and exercise.

We selected our latest puppy this way, and he's turned out to be very headstrong and naughty. He's already chewed his way through half our house. Chairs, banisters, door frames, window sills, cables, computer equipment, shoes, clothes, carpets, you name it...and it doesn't matter what toys we give him. We love him to death, but it truly is a labour of love. A very expensive one.

It's been a year already. I wonder how long it will be before we give in and admit that it's not teething...

If you must have a purebred, ask around and buy from a small breeder.

I've also converted to rescued dogs. We got Murphy from a poodle rescue, even though he's (we think) a poodle-Wheaton terrier mix.

I live in Florida and got my African Serval wildcat from a breeder in Oregon, the best bet I have ever found. He is still got one more year to grow and another to get to his complete weight and right now he is 30 pounds. My house is in perfect shape and he is an indoor pet!

Thanks! They are purebred Samoyeds. Unbelievably cute, unbelievably sweet-tempered, unbelievably spoilt, unbelievably naughty. :)

We’ve bought 2 Puppy’s from the above website in the
past two 18 Months. A miniature Lhasa Apso, and a Tea
Cup Maltese. Both were sent to use by Air. Both were a
little stressed from their Trips but quickly recovered.

My Wife did a lot of research before we bought.

If you are not seeking a specific Breed, do check out your
Local Shelters as there are many Animals in need of Homes.

Thanks for posting some internet source, Jimpo & ChuckE.
I checked several sites by now, but somehow I feel WEIRD buying living thing on internet... Like getting married w/ internet bride w/out meeting.

As usual, SpeedRacerette for rescue Yoshi. (I don't know how many times she did that already!) Trying to help hooking up w/ local people.

Tillman, we're also interested in Toy Fox Terrier (TFT).

Timing & the chance plays a big role to meet the right pet, just like w/ ladies, I guess. I just didn't realize that there's no pet shop which sells pet in our area! I wasn't aware about puppy mill & disadvantage of pet shop though. I thought all rescued dog came from people who abandoned pets!

Servals are very playful and full of energy and they might find toddlers interesting to play with, the problem is may not be the cat but the toddler. My serval loved my nephew until he caused him some pain on its tail one day and after that the serval doesn't want to be near him. My sister in law came over and her 7 month old baby was sleeping the afternoons away sharing the bed with Yngwie(my servals name). I wouldn't advise to leave a serval and a baby together out of your sight, the serval might want to play with him and hurt him. I was advise to not buy one if I had kids younger than 5 years of age. This cats just like the lynx and bobcats do bond extremely close to its owners so it is not wise to buy and then give away to a shelter or to sale as a pet again, a Yukon lynx starved to death after he was sold to new owners!
