Fair play to 'em. Looks like it's going to be a good event. Just a shame it's on at the same time as my belt service otherwise I'd have been tempted myself

    Ade,

I'm (like several others on this here site) well acquainted with Mr. Macari, who has taken part in several of these events in both EU and US in the last few years. From what I can gather, or have seen on the TV, it seems to me that although there is a very marginal chance of one or more of the outcomes you list coming to pass, I would humbly suggest that the far more likely outcomes are:

    a) the wallet of each participant being ten grand lighter.
    b) yes, that was per person, not per car - see items c to e.
    c) your arse in jail.
    d) a number of Fcar models in the armco.
    e) the opportunity for heavy fines in at least twenty different countries or states.
    f) lots of media perception of 'rich idiots behaving like children'.
    g) okay in spite of a to f, it will be a seriously good laugh (if that's your kind of humour).

I'd love the driving - bit like our regular Le Mans trips but for longer - but unsure if the rest of the experience justifies the (not just financial) cost....

....but if I could chuck away that much money for a few days entertainment, I might go one day.

    James,

If this is like our Le Mans trip, does this mean you will be sorting out the models.

Guys, I have to step in here!

Gumball/ Cannonball we ain’t! That’s exactly what we are trying to avoid.

    a) The wallet of each participant (models excluded) will not be £10k lighter unless each passenger decides to enter two cars each, instead of sharing one together.
    b) See above
    c) We aren’t holding timed stages on the road – we aren’t stickering cars; we’re en route to tracks.
    d) Do F cars normally end up in Armco’s on track days?
    e) Read c)
    f) We’re trying to promote a responsible event here for car enthusiasts, not party junkies
    g) OK, I agree J

Come on James, you know you’d love it!

    Kevin

To my most valued friends at F-Chat

Some interesting comments on DR I must say!
Ok Let my fill in the gaps.

I took part in Gumball 03 USA and 04
I took part in Cannonball 04

Gumball = Mad, cool parties, 8k per car....ouch expensive
    Cannonball = Poorly organised
(All in my opinion of course, please feel free to disagree)

    I Love Cars
    I Love driving
    I Love having fun!
    Hence drivers run
    Price £2125:00 per person= £4250 per car
Is this a good deal? You decide

    What do you get?
We try to keep the tour as much a secret as possible to avoid unwanted attention, but I will give you a brief preview shall we say.

The 5Kk is a tour over 8 Days, through Europe.
You will drive over 13 countries and 9 capital cities. You will see some awesome scenery, sandy beaches and drive some of Europe’s most awesome roads. Visit 3 Race Circuits, visit cool motoring places (if you own a Ferrari you'll love it!) Some great get-togethers with like minded petrol heads (a very cool party in Amsterdam planned). We will not sticker the cars with logos, we don't need to raise revenue from sponsors, and we certainly don't need 'extra' attention from the law. The idea is not to go mad on the road as in other 'rally’s', if you want to show off do it on the three track's and if you don't want to track your car, you don't have to.
On top of all these great things there are 32 awards up for grabs, there are 6 car categories, a first and second trophy for each member of each team to demonstrate the best navigational skills on the road i.e. the team shown best able to find their way to the next destinations with the route cards provided at each check point, a kind of mystery tour! There are also 6 track driver awards up for grabs, for the trackday enthusiasts.
We will have support vehicles with flat bed trailers and Mechanics following us, also tyre specialists at the track, and security arranged for the cars.

I will sum up by saying the other events are for people who love parties and also like cars and don't mind driving.

Drivers Run is different it is for people who love cars and driving, and love having fun.

    See you there.

    Stewart,

My remark was that the driving was like our Le Mans trips - nothing else. If you want champagne, charlie and babes included, you will need to get your wallet out significantly more often. As you know this is Philip's area of expertise not mine...

    Kevin and Davey,

To clarify, my previous comments were good-humoured teasing based on the experience of people that I know on EU or US trips over the last few years, and in no way pass any judgement on the drivers run organisation or proposed trips (which I do not pretend to know anything about, and have only seen your website just now as a result of your posts). Good site, BTW.

Sadly, yes plenty of Fcars and others have been trailered home from trackdays (or even just Le Mans / Monaco / Spa trips) that I have attended, and I have to say that your awarding trophies for the trackday events within your trips (unless they're for driver skill rather than lap times) does make me nervous that people might be encouraged to drive beyond their capabilities - or even worse, those of their vehicle - which usually tends to end in being expensive...

However, the costs that you mention sound very reasonable for having a good time in the company of like-minded driving enthusiasts in some great places, so I commend you for that. Although I will not be able to join your European trip in April for work reasons, I hope you all have a great time and return unharmed having enjoyed yourselves. Maybe another time.

    Good luck and happy motoring.

    James.

    Hi James,

To clarify the track awards are for best track driver, not fastest lap times, if you didn’t know already for insurance reasons you can not time laps on a trackday. A lot of people seem to be put off track days for fear of damaging their cars. In my mind this is silly. You can drive your car on a track as fast or as slow as you want. You can also take the opportunity to chat to others about their cars and watch the trackday masters (Joe 360 CS) put their cars through their paces, all the time learning and having fun. I don't think any of the guys on the run would take their cars on a trip like this and bend it at one of the tracks. Believe it or not it isn’t easy to damage you car on a track it is far, far safer then driving on the road, unless, that is you drive like a plonker, in which case you will most likely be taken off the track before you damage yourself or someone else. And if that’s the case you are as likely to crash your car on the road. Trackday’s are fun and safe, if organised properly.

Anyway Good luck, the point of our event is most people who have nice cars don't really have the opportunity to use them, for several reasons, the main one being you can't park your car anywhere, and not worry about it. On this trip you can we have security people with the cars when ever they are parked. It is a lot of fun going on a trip with other like minded people who also have nice cars having new destinations and checkpoints to find along the way. I believe if a road trip is going to be fun you need a propose something which you are trying to achieve, this gives you that.

Beats driving the car to the Golf course once a month, what a waste.

Totally agree with your comments on trackdays. I have attended about fifty in the last 4-5 years in various cars (as you can see from my profile). They do have the great advantage of:

    no speed limits
    no Volvos
    no oncoming traffic (usually)
no tractors pulling out from side-roads

I prefer the 2 or 3 day festivals more common in europe (and tracks like Spa, Magny Cours, Ring, etc.) for 300-400 euros, so it's a damn shame I can't join you guys !
