Does anyone have any idea of what the factory sold M.S.'s F1 ride from '01 for. Not that I can affoed one but what a dream... It was featured on Fifth Gear recently.

I think they mentioned it won at Monaco (and a few other races) so I'd guess it was around $1.5 million+. I personally wouldn't buy a race-winning F1 car and then drive it. I'd rather get a spare car, which is also cheaper and drive that.

    Almost related to this:

Michael Schumacher bought his first ever F1 car for his collection. Yes, the 7up Jordan.

It was in Sports Car Market about 5 months ago. If it is this one, it won several (4?) races including the USGP and sold at auction for $1.6M.

Autoweek had an article on Ferrari's Corse Clienti a few months ago and mentioned some prices. You could try searching the AW website for the artilce.

Just shows ... he is not a unemotional robotic person as some of his critics liken him to be. The Jordan car brought him into F1 and therefore he is keeping it for sentimental reasons.

I thought Michael was given the F2002 as well but I could be wrong. I am pretty sure when he finally leaves, he will be taking a couple of cars home with him...

He is a robot in the cockpit, but I'd think outside he is a fairly regular guy.

He got the car actually for the F1 museum he and his brother are putting together at the go kart track they grew up in. I think his brother started the deal, when he collected every F1 car he ever drove at the end of the season. Now Michael joined in. Can you imagine, what awesome museum this is going to be one day? Have to visit that place after they retire.

The way I figure, if I'm dropping a mil and a half for his car, I've got plenty in reserve for a couple spares! I'm sure Eddie Jordan would love to hear his phone ring.

MS gets his pick of an F1 car a year, which isn't a bad deal!

On a similar note, Toyota gave Panis the car he drove this year as a retirement gift!

On second thought, I don't think I'd even buy a Ferrari spare car after getting a race-used one. I've seen the 2001 Jordan EJ11s go for $140k with spare parts available. I've, unfortunately, never driven an F1 car, but I bet I will not be able to tell a difference between the two cars because of my lack of skills. I'll just notice a weight difference in my wallet :D

I think you're absolutely spot on with your remarks. I actually have driven a F1 (AGS, comparable to today's Minardis) and it was a total blast and the car had so much more capability than the driver that even a "slow" F1 car would do just fine. The difference to the top cars lies in the heritage/bragging rights/investment part of the game, not really in the car (technically yes, but the mere mortals of us don't have the capacity to go there).

A friend of mine wants me to join him in buying a F1 together. It'd be a blast to take it to historic F1 events and drive with other older F1 cars. No question. But so far the financial side of it still has prevented me from following suit. Also if I had my choice I wouldn't go for a modern F1 car where you need factory support to run it. A nice mechanical car from the seventies or eighties would be my choice. What was Osella's factory address again?
    :)

I'd love to have an F2002, the first of the current generation of Ferrari Formula 1 cars. Easier to drive than the longer-wheelbase F2003-GA, and from Ferrari's most dominant year ever in Formula 1.
