Range Rover
I never said it was a comfortable family car, I just merely mentioned it because I consider it a great 4 door, 4 seat car with potentional. I just figured if you own a Ferrari you are into "fast cars" and everything mentioned thus far can be challenged by a well engineered STi for a fraction of the cost. Leaves lots of money left over other things.. If it was a case of being comforatble get a Maybach and find a driver that can drive well in the snow
You get a SPARE Ferrari, as back up for the Ferrari! Then you find a nice gf with dependable transportation, to take you for parts! Where's Tea Are? I'll let him expand on the merits of a little truck to haul the other stuff around...............
The STI or Evo arent good for kids. They are too rough and jerk too much. The ride is a rough ride too very sporty.I was going to suggest that if you want something under 35k. If you have a todler though its not a good idea. Get an Audi S4 Wagon! or RS6. Much smoother and forgiving. Doesnt look as ugly too as the Evo or STI.
Since the question did not specify which Ferrari - I am narrowing it down the one I have. Complementary Cars 330GT Series 2 Generation I Ford Taurus SHO It is amazing how close they are in specs, except the SHO gets 30 MPG. and is a Q-Ship going through speed traps. Cheers Warren
NO! NO! NO! The car that suits your needs and compliments to a Ferrari the BEST simply isn't available (yet?) in Northern America if I'm not mistaken... I'm talking about the 240hp Alfa Romeo GT 3.2 V6 (4 seats, 2doors) or the bigger Alfa Romeo 166 3.2 V6 if you really need four doors. Those are the only cars that perfectly would suit your needs AND look bests next to your Ferrari IMO Four seats, family friendly but still sporty, powerful all rounder, great looking AND full off Italian style and heritage! Can't believe no one even mentioned these yet! You should import one and have something really special! The Maserati 4-porte is a good choice too of course... But if these are out of the question, I would go for a Audi A6 or a Volvo V70... Just my opinion off course... Good luck in making the right decision!
Not to mention the G-force under braking. If the kid's that young, leave it home (with a sitter that won't shake the baby). At least, until they pave these @#$% roads. A Roller wouldn't have a smooth ride on all this road construction. But you'd have a cardiac if the infant burped up sour milk over the Roller's interior. (Anyone remember Bill Cosby's description of taking his wife to the delivery room in a Ferrari? -- Not here, dear, not in the Ferrari!)
I love to drive my Range Rover instead of my F355 in Rain and snow...i dont think there is any other car that can match this cars confort and performance.
I use a BMW 525 Touring and find it compliments the Ferrari well. For a start, it encourages a more relaxed driving style. Also it has masses of space for stuff in the back, as well as all the comforts you come to expect. Finally, while the handling is not exactly sporting, it has a certain grace that I find appealing. The only problem is that it's not that good in snowy weather, or other conditions where traction is a problem.
I spent a good amount of time thinking about this question - in New England, needed a car that was more-or-less 4 season capable (as I have a fall back) so I have - > Challenge Stradale CLK55 convertible - 4 seats, sun in the hair, heated seats great with the roof down even when its 40F. Chose this over 911 (yawn), Maserati Coupe (conv is only 2 seats), Maserati QP - wife vetoed as being an "old man's car". Lexus GX470 (for wife & family) Suburban (leggy beater - as my fallback) I now have a "no cars with less than 8 cylinders" rule. I also strive to have no vehicle that will better 20mpg. I tell my environmental-minded friends that I'm going to have the suburban converted to run on whale-blubber
F-Car and you need a 4 seat get around everywhere...Got to be an H1 soft top.. 4 doors 4 seats, and a truck beg, goes literally anywhere and in the summer you can have sinshine injection!!! Not the soccer Mom H2 or "chev Suburban" cause that is what it is. You should enjoy your other vehicle as well. Diesel get 15mpg to not 8. Go to my profile and see what I mean. It drives as smooth and comfortable as any suburban, esclade or Rover..I was shocked too Mike
I have been resistant to the idea of driving anything other then my 308 and 348 until last week. I have a truck, but that's just for moving heavy things around. So in the last few weeks southern California has been raining almost evey day. Needless to say that I have been sitting around the house with a sad face because I won't drive my babys in the rain. Two days ago I was so ticked off at the weather that I went out and purchased a 2001 Audi A4 2.8. It's a fun car to drive and very comfertable. Too bad it will sit for 11 months after the rain stops. Cheers Rick
It amazes me how many of you guys love those overpriced German vehicles. (I used to own one, too but wised up). I have the best all around practical, snow loving, and serious performing car in my garage and it's less than 35K out the door. You cannot beat the Subie STI, not even on a track where one of my recent victims was a 355B. If you want it to be quieter, gentler, you can buy another set of wheels and all season tires for about 1200. Granted it's not luxury but for the money you save, you can easily buy a very nice used mid size Bimmer or (especially) Audi to go with it. Dave
But you don't always want a raw sports car to compliment a raw sports car. For the money they're great performance bargains, but if you've got a sports car already it would be reasonable to get luxury car or something of that sort.
Yes, there is....it's called a Hummer H2 But there is one key difference, the Hummer actually kicks-ass offroad and doesn't take premium gas to do it. All the comforts and truly kicks-butt in snow, mud and especially offroad.
You are kidding right? An H2 versus a MKIII RR is absolutely no comparison. Needless to say, I would be taking the RR everytime over an H2.
The reason (besides price difference) I chose my H2... http://www.rangerovers.net/rrmkiiiremedies.html
I don't know what it is..but here in Canada most Ferrari owners also own a M-Benz. In fact I think all but 2 of my Ferrari cutomers have a Benz or 2 as there main transport. And you know what really funny? One of my customer has a Black Ferrari, an E430, and a 1974 Corvette. The the time I met him I had the exact same cars! Kinda weird..anyhoo...
Speaking of Volvo, I saw a bit of Police Chase footage on Spike the other night. A Regal or somesuch went across a freeway median and was travelling at a very high rate of speed... it hit a Volvo head on. Hard. It would have destroyed most any other car, and worse, resulted in loss of life to a loved one, innocent as they may be. It helped me understand why, years ago, a childhood friend/Insurance Agent remained gorgeous and went out and bought another Volvo after she, through no fault of her own, was hit by a Semi. As she put it, there is no substitute. There is no substitute for your family or it's safety at any time. Head-on. At speed. Intact. Think about it.
