I am curious what parts (maintenance and other) on a 78 308GTS are easily replaced with either aftermarket or from other car makes. For example CV boots!?... do they need to be original or would other ones do the same job? Another one is the Fuel filter!, I think it's supposed to be replaced every 10.000km, I think mine is original!!! at least it looks like a very original museum piece. Oil filter? Any other suggestions, please include on the list. Thanks, Helmut
There have been numerous threads on interchangable parts for 308 and others. I don't know any specific search words that might help you though. There was recently a thread on cv boots and joints... I wish somehow this info could be complied andput in an arichve of some sort. I know a lot of people would find it useful.
Try looking in the Classic forum. There's a thread I started, something like Don's 308 service notes that has a lot of that stuff.
The CV joints are the same used an 930 turbo. Also a lot of dune buggies use the same CV joint. You can use 930 cv boots too or an aftermarket with the flange connected to the boots. Check this site out for more info: http://www.dansperformanceparts.com/buggy/susp/buggysusp%20IRS.htm You have a 28 splined 15 5/8th's axle. You need a 930 CV in 108mm. As far as filters go check ebay. You need a Baldwin b253 I believe. You find them on there pretty cheap and usually 2 at a time or do a Google search for them. -Sam
www.adiesel.com I purchased a few Baldwin 253 oil filters and a Baldwin PF866 fuel filter just recently. Took about a week to get but the oil filters were @$11 and the fuel filter was @$6. My air filter is also a baldwin, but I don't have the part # handy. Also, the Baldwin filters look great in the engine bay being that they are red.
Wow, this is all excellent information. I absolutely agree this should be compiled into some sort of archive and possibly added on to as we go. Should anybody have any recollection of previous threads may be he/her can include it in this one so we can combine the old threads into a single new one. Thanks, Helmut
I found Don's thread but I am not able to copy and paste the link into this thread.... any secret buttons I need to click?
You have to open a new browser to pick up the other link then bring it over to this window.. I thought someone said a late 911 type CV boot is identical to a 308 boot. The Baldwin airfilter is PA2094 I get my Baldwin B253 oil filters at the local Chevron Oil Distributorship in my home town for 9.00 each.
