Apple just released an annoucement that they are working with several automakers to include ipod integration into their stereo systems. Ferrari will announce details of their iPod integration solutions later this year, allowing customers to enjoy high-quality sound through their car’s stereo system, easily access their entire music library and control their iPod using their car’s standard controls.

Interesting, I was just thinking last month why hasn't this been done.

Did they say when they planned a release?

Even though i am a professional reviewer for audiophile gear/music...

You mean my Ferrari has a stereo in it? Is it the thing near/on the floorboard on the driver's side right, the center and left. You know, the far left thing needs 'channel changing' with that silver stick in the center of the console. These controls appear to operate a V8 and also a gear box that provide full 360 degree ultra-high definition surround sound. i THINK the 'sampling rate' goes up to 7,700 rpm or so.

    :)

That so cool. I know my cousin has the same set up in her Bimmer.

A connection with the iPod Photo would be cool too... so if they have a dvd screen or what not they could see photo slide shows while at car shows or gatherings when the cars are parked.

I'm with Steve on this. Hell, I've had 3 Ferraris and never even turned on the radio in any of them. Well, to be fair, one's a Challenge car so that doesn't count, but you know what I mean. The notion of fancy stereos, nav systems, etc. in Ferraris baffles me. Maybe if they were daily drivers, but almost no one, at least here in the US, uses these cars that way.

iPod integration doesn't work with DVD Nav euipped stereo in the BMW. Wife has 2004 M3 with Nav, she is very unimpressed that it doesn't work with her iPod.

Ferrari stereos are such crap I don't see why an iPod integration would be at all useful.

I am proud to own a 328 that has never had a stereo from day one. It still has the leather plate where it would go.

Being a user for Apple since 1989, (remember Newton? It was way ahead of time) I thought this thread was about apple computer using Ferrari logo for iPod or PowerBook.

It could be a good option for some people, but I haven't turned on stereo in Ferrari yet, too. My 355 came w/ after market stereo w/ a big speaker between a driver & an navi seat, and amp in a trunk. It could mean a lot for some driver, but it is un-used option so far.

Don't they already have some adaptor to use iPod w/ a car stereo using radio frequency? My iPod only goes w/ me on a plane so far, so I don't know how this adaptor works. (isn't it called i"something"?)

I use Itrip and it works well. I setup my playlist and listen to what I want when I want.

In the Mondial Z I am going to build in a full PC using a mini itx board. Input will be via a 7inch touch screen and a trackball. Some things this setup will do:

Play gigabites of MP3s (and DVDs if you are parked)
Receive DAB and FM radio broadcasts
GPS navigation and fixed speed camera warnings
    Wireless LAN when at home
Display and record video from front and rear cameras
    Control engine efi management system
    Bluetooth phone integration including:
-handsfree telephone calls and voice dialling
    -email
    -web access

Sound will go through a suitable amp to NXT flat panel speakers.
The display will have a chrome dancing donkey for the screen saver.

All for about the price of a home PC.

I just turned my radio on once to verify that it works. The V8 makes the only music I care to listen to.

I know two people that do and both wish they had a better stereo system.

    Without upgrading that, its like 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th gear on Jimmy's 360. I.E. useless

I am also an itrip man - if I use the low frequencies 90 - 95 and the reception seems to be good enough.

I agree with your (and other people's) point about stereos. There is the V8 (or V12) 'orchestra' in the back, why bother with stereos.

On the other hand I strongly disagree on the nav sys. If you use you f-car for 'touring' (ie long trips, weekends away etc) you will travel into unfamiliar territory and I can assure you a navigation system is much much better than paper maps!

Of course if you are a weekend driver who just does 50km per week around your block then no need for a navigation.
