460x36 kit compared with 360 mm discs  The kit fits under +24" wheels!!! More Hummer H2 pictures http://www.movit.de/htm/hummer.htm
Stoptech has an even bigger set using 12 piston front calipers, not sure when they come out though...a friend at stoptech showed some photos.
Brakes are the new bling item, but typically people fall into to the if-more-is-better-then-most-is-best line of thinking. Big brakes like these (unnecessarily big) can slow you down, and I don't mean when you're pressing the brake pedal!
Bigger than 460x36 discs? Sure 12 piston calipers sounds like a very stupid idea 6 piston is enough to make a 2900 kg Hummer lock its wheels. Please show us some pictures of the Stoptech kit which you say are bigger than MOVITs 460x36 kit.
look at this: http://www.movit.de/images/fertr03.jpg http://www.movit.de/images/fertr12.jpg just awesome. i must get those brakes for my "old" 400. maybe they are too big but for sure the best, strongest and absolutely nicest brakes i have ever seen. or trade the 400 for a 512 .....
I have MOVIT brakes both fron and rear on my SLK they work just perfect a little bit overkill but looks extremly good Ferrari Testarossa http://www.movit.de/htm/testaro.htm Ferrari 355 http://www.movit.de/htm/fer355sp.htm http://www.movit.de/htm/fer355.htm Lambo Murcielago http://www.movit.de/htm/lammov.htm Dodge Viper GTS http://www.movit.de/htm/vipgts.htm Nissan 350Z http://www.movit.de/htm/nissan300.htm Corvette Z06 http://www.movit.de/htm/corvz06.htm TVR Cerbera http://www.movit.de/htm/tvrc.htm
F1 brakes are tiny if you see them. I think F1 cars have 15 inch wheels, the brakes really are very small. They stop better than any other brakes.... ever.
That's because they've got the tires to do the job; the brakes don't stop the car, the tires do (or in F1 the drag and the tires.)
Those Movit rotors are probably bigger, I don't know for sure. I was just referencing the Stoptech 12-pot caliper piece. It's goofy as hell, it wraps 1/2 way around the rotor and looks like a boomerang.
What about the brake bias adjustment valve and master cylinder do you need to change that? Whats the size of each piston? Tarox has a 12 piston caliper too with 340-360 mm discs and it fits under 18" wheels the caliper is the same size as the Porsche 993 TT caliper and the piston are extremly small...
The size is exactly the problem. The farther you move the mass away from the center, the more inertia it has, meaning it takes more energy to move. Even with lighter materials there will be more drivetrain loss. My point is simply that there is a point of diminishing returns, and a well sorted system seeks to find the best balance. Most is not best. Obviously the subtly of this point will be totally lost on anyone who bought an H2.
And 24" wheels don't look good on a hummer Say's me... yeah I know its all subjective.... But there's no point in having such large wheels on a hummer unless you're a rapper that uses them to raise your image with young suburban males.
