Yuck! Hopefully someone sane purchased it and restored it to original. What a great example of how to ruin a fantastic car!

Wow!!! I'm not sure why someone would do that to a great car like the Daytona. Where did you find this???

i think it's wild... i would love to see it in person... It reminds of Drogo... i've never heard of Colani - has he rebodied any other Ferraris...?

Freak, are you absolutely certain it was a Daytona that was modified...?

Colani is fond of curves. In fact, he's very fond of curves.
    http://www.colani.ch/frame.htm
    His site

    - many design sites showcase his curves. For example, look for his Tanker Truck.

Anyone else think "Mach 5" from the picture below?

Pity...bet it still went with a stink, though.

Yes, this is real. The photo is from an older German magazine titled "DAZ Deutsche Auto Zeitung" from the late 1970s, early 1980s. Over the years designer Luigi Colani "ruined" several Ferraris by heavily customising.

Yes, it was a Daytona - look at the side windows and doors - a dead giveaway

pretty crazy website - calls himself a "provoker, challenger, aesthete and creator of perfect round forms."

also credits himself w/ the following:
"1957 - Colani Alfa is the first sportscar to drive round the Nürburgring and clocked a lap in under 10 minutes; can now be seen in the Martini Rosso Museum

    1959 World`s first monocoque sportscar: BMW 700"

also says he is the designer of the new Mazda MX-5

Where do I sign up to become an 'aesthete'??

I love Colani and his wild designs. They're not always very functional, in fact they're rarely functional, but they look so darn hot. He probably did the Daytona at a time when it was "just another car". Just like a tuner today takes a stab at a Maranello or a Modena, no big deal.

I have a few books about Colani's work, which incorporates anything you can think of, from forks to trucks. But I never saw the Daytona. Thanks for posting this.

I understand that Colani did MORE THAN ONE Daytona! Perhaps he re-did the same car later again?? I think the second one was painted red.

Looks like someone molded some cheap fibreglass to a perfectly good Daytona. Disgusting. I'd bet that Colani is a good friend of Franco Sbarro....

There are plenty of 'perfectly good Daytona's in the world. Nice to see someone having some fun with what was doubtless a cheap old nail at the time.

I've never found any more pictures of the Colani Daytona... Anyone?

It is said the bodypanels are actually made out of aluminium.

Yes I always wondered what happened to that Daytona: I remember seeing a photo of it in an article when living in Germany in the mid seventies.

Perhaps someone here would like to ask him.

That is well put Marcel: sometimes and perhaps in this case it is convenient for the author of a conversion to "forget" what happened to it!

    best regards,

    Marc
