I don't care what they say, this is a beautiful car and a true Ferrari (well, how more true can you get with a frontengined 12?).

T-Rex? Is that the pet name you gave to the girl flopping around in the back seat with the large mouth? hehehe, just joking, we all know that nobody can have sex in a Ferrari!
Can somebody tell me if this was a factory original color? http://www.craigslist.org/sfc/car/58942674.html If it was, I would still dislike it, but I'd live with it as being "original". If not, why would somebody do that to the car?!?!

Since the 365 was Pininfarina's initial vision for the car from a styling perspective the 365's looks are pretty much as good as it gets. It can be argued if later changes really were improvements (although bigger displacement is hard to argue against). Webers to FI has its advantages and disadvantages. The carbs look and sound so much better. Later body changes were minimal until the 412 and that wasnt an improvement in my view. The 365s knock-offs are cool. Certainly the later metric wheels are not cool and the on the 412 the wheels look downright odd to me (although the ABS is probably a good thing). Does the 365 have self leveling? I expect if it does, it is a simpler system than is on my 400i allowing more options on dealing with shock replacements/upgrades. Id expect the setup is similar to the 365 GTC/4 (but Im just guessing)
Yes, it has it, but I don't know how the system changed over the life of the series. Thankfully, I haven't had issues with it and I hope it stays that way.
Consider yourself lucky the 365 doesn't have this self leveling system. Camshaft driven pump, reservoirs, leveler, hydraulic lines all over the place connected to all 4 shocks. Rebuilding them seems to be unavailable and I don't know of a good solution on what to do with all this stuff if the shocks were to be replaced with new. I've seen specifics of putting new technology springs and adjustable shocks on a 365 GTC/4 but there is no issue of what to do with the camshaft driven pump, etc. etc. Oh well. In earlier posts you said you took it to the track. How does it do on the track? I might take mine to Sebring sometime in the future but I want to replace the bushings (and maybe the shocks) first. As much to do laps at Sebring as anything else. 400iGuy Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Don't laugh, but it drives like a very fast Buick. Its big and heavy, but the 320 hp engine still makes it go quick. I don't run in the red group because I don't want to push it that hard, but its very predictable and pretty easy to set up in the turns. You're not going to set any new records, but you will have fun.
here's some shots I took of a 400 several weeks ago on a rally drive. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
I don't have the parts manual with me, but here is how the owner's manual describes the system. Rear Suspension Independent wheels, joined to the chassis by transverse wishbones. It has helical springs of great flexibility and double acting telescopic shock absorbers coaxial with the springs; transverse anti-roll bar and oil pneumatic self leveling devices. These devices, besides keeping the car at a constant static level, indepenently from the speed, load, and road conditions, have also a self damping effect on the suspension which varies according to speed and load. They need no upkeep and must not be tampered with for any reason. Replace them in case of uneveness. The rebound rubbers are situated inside the shock absorbers and self leveling devices.
