3400 bucks when my german shepard was a pup! His blood lines were amazing and parents were big time show winners. Pups can get very expensive depending on the breed and where and who it came from

Vincent, we have similiar looking Shepherds.

My German Shepherd cost her original owner $1300. They were forced to give her up and we adopted her for $400. That's how much the breeder gave the original owner for the dog. She was 2 when we got her and have now had her for almost 3 years. We couldn't have asked for a better dog.

Sometimes I feel like I'd pay somebody $1500 to take my Golden. Nah, he's too great of a companion.

The previous owners paid $1800.00 for my Golden Retreiver before "giving" him to me. His father was a grand national champion, and he was the cover dog in the AKC's Gazette magazine when he was a tot.

My previous retriever cost me $8.00 and lived to be 17 years old before I had to put her to sleep. Best bird dog and $8 bucks I ever spent.

I bought a purebred St. Bernard for about $300. The most gentle dog I have ever seen. He doesn't quite know his own strength though.

I'm looking for a dog right now. Was looking for a lab to be a retriever and family dog. Someone gave me a heads up on a little known breed called a Boykin Spaniel. Supposedly retrieves like a lab, points like a spaniel, and is a smaller/milder dog than a lab. Problem is most are bred in Carolinas as that's where they originated. One breeder in Houston, but next litter isn't until July.

Anyway, as I was learning about labs found out how important lines to field champions and previous good hunters are. Good bloodline labs start at about $400 and go above $3000. Many more police departments and airports are using labs now over other breeds.

    Here is a Boykin Spaniel…

yeah my wife made me buy her a 1200 bulldog..
geeze... bulldogs are kinda like ferrari's though.. the intial price is just the beginning.. this dog has probably had over 3k in medical related expenses.. bulldogs have all types of "skin irritation" issues.. and "hip displacement"...
needless to say this dog.. is a drain on my wallet !

well heck. .i was going to add a picture but i cant find any under 2 megs.. sorry

This isn't my dog (erm, yet, but more on that later...), but it's an ex's grandmother's dog which I used to sit while I was at school and she was in FL for the winter. It's a pure Carin Terrier (no idea about his heritage though)and I know they paid somewhere around $1000-$1500 for him as a pup a few years ago. She (the grandmother) is getting up there in age and they keep hinting that I'll "inherit" him once she goes to live in a nursing home. He's too small of a dog for me, but he sure is funny :).

PS. Anybody here have experience with Saluki's? They're incredible dogs, but I have yet to meet anybody who owns one or really knows what they are.

Rob...I currently have a 25 week old Field bred English Springer spaniel that I will use for upland birds. Both her parents were from the UK and field champions. Before that I had a Brittany that was a great pointer / retiever. I am not sure about the Boykin, but try shootingsportman.com and look on the BB under Dogs. You can get a lot of info on field dogs. BTW are you going to name it Babo?

Not as funny as naming the pub after the prohibitionist founder... "Roger's" :)

Scag if a boy, Enzo's mistresses name if a girl (I can't remember off hand) - Piero's mom.

My Great Dane passed away two years ago Christmas. I paid $1500 bucks plus airfare for him 9 years before that. So either you are getting a good deal or I paid way too much way back.

I think I'd rather think you got a good deal. :)
