Very intuitive, give the man a cigar: IT WAS IN FACT A 550 and we are taking about the same 3 hoses.

Just imagine, your car blows a hose and you bring it into the "reputable" shop. They repair it by replacing the broken hose and one other non-broken hose. They say nothing else to you: they take your good money and send you on your way.

Not even a month later that 3rd hose breaks on you. You bring it back to the shop. When it's opened up the mechanic who did the work laughs out-loud and the shop owner hits you for full-bang to do the job again. COME ON GUYS...this is a no-brainer: if one hose broke and the other looked bad enough to replace....you damn-well replace the 3rd hose for $16 OR AT LEAST option it to the customer!!!!!!!!! CAN I GET AN AMEN?

My buddy even offered to pay for half the cost...but NO, the stubborn owner wants to charge full-bang and profit on his negligence. I think offering to pay half was more then generous enough.

Steve, Trinacria is the ancient name for Sicily and also the name of the ancient symbol of Sicily. Which is a ladies head with three legs that symbolizes the three sides of the island of Sicily. My avataar is a picture of the flag of Sicily.. I thought that our fellow F-chatter "Trinacria" must be a fellow sicilian, so I sent a message. Ciao (or in sicilain dialect) Addiu !

If they were making him pay the whole amount. I say f-them and take it to another shop that will get it right and stand behind their work and spread the news about their inability to correct it to anyone that will listen but being that it is fixed now, it's a moot point.

I have seen the offending hose and I have never seen a hose come apart like that. It did not come apart over night. It was like that when the other two were replaced. It's just laziness on the mechanic's part. Or stupidity or over confidence. The Mechanic in question has a bit of arrogance to him.

Ferrari's are like airplanes. It's all about PREVENTITAVE maintenance. It they want to run the shop on the "come back" basis or fix what is only broken rather then do the "might as well's" then they should only work on Fords.

It's good business to work that way but not good customer service.

Yet another nail in their coffin

Good idea, but the car was taken back figuring they had not repaired it properly on what they did. Only after it was opened-up was the problem revealed, and by that point you couldn't really wheel it out to another shop: it was basically like holding it hostage.

As far as "nail in the coffin"...I agree. While I really like the guy who runs the shop (he's a really cool guy), I think the shop owner is being stubborn & unfair, especially when, by taking up my boys offer to pay for half, he could have made a customer happy and make profit.

Now, he's lost my boy, me and others. How could I go there with any confidence? I suppose by now it's obvious I'm not talking about a shop in Seattle as I earlier eluded.

Roger That. Based on all the bad press they have been getting. They should have accepted the 1/2 price offer.

When a hose on my car sprang a leak we looked at the inside. It was rotting from the inside out. A quick look at another "good" hose on a different part of the car told the same story, rubber rot from the inside out. The Mech suggested replacing all the rubber on engine heater core etc, not cheap but well worth it as all the hoses had the same issue.

If you have lame people working on your car the results reflect it, best find the ferrari artist in your area and have them do the work in future. The best people usualy will drive the sh**t out of the car for a day or two afterwards, ironing out any kinks and undiscovered problems. The best repair or tune up is one that is well tested by the person who did it.

If the owner doesn't understand their car and its nuances the conclusion by a Mech is that the owner can't appreciate the car properly or tell the difference. Realisticaly most F-car drivers only notice any problem when the car runs real bad or stops. Like most any car in this land of serious speed limits most people think even 100mph is fast. Its kinda like using an ocean yacht on a calm lake, untill you get to heavy seas there problems are not manifest, whereas a boat used at sea by necessity is kept in top form.

That all being said, common sense would dictate that all hard to reach bits or hoses are replaced once the expense of acess has been made. Its like dropping an engine to change belts and not doing the water pump, youre there already. Anyone who didn't do the work or notify the owner shouldnt be doing the work. Any shop that doesn;t understand this doesn't deseve the business. That is assuming the owner of the car is not a notorious cheapskate when it comes to maintanance. Cardinal rule of hi perf and classic cars is spend the money now to do it right or pay double later.

Thats nothing when I first got my gt4 I had a leak from my water pump. I had a well respected mechanic replace the pump $900. It slowly leaked until I removed it and found that the shaft was totally corroded. The part was $12.00. On my car which has studs took me about 2 days to get to it to take it off. Very upsetting. I decided then that I wanted to learn as much as I can about my car and since I have done all the work. I just wish I had a tenth of the knowledge that Brian or Phil have. The fact that they and the FUK guys spend time here with us shows their passion for Ferrari. If I had lived near either of them I would probably had them do all my work, but I found out that I had as much fun working on the car as driving it. I have a Ferrari smock like they used to assemble my car and I put it on and I am in, well.... Italy! I actually am thankful to the original mechanic who made me work on my car making my ownership more enjoyable! Carbs this summer! Look out!!! %-)
