Building off the Ghost thread. What scares the bajezus out of you. I don't mean, not succeeding or getting your Ferrari stolen. I mean something that flat out scares you, whether it be the dark or ghosts or something.

I'll start. To this day I can't watch Edward Scissorhands, it's hard enough typing it out, but for some reason that is the only movie that has ever stricken true fear in my heart. Other than that, i'm a pretty fearless guy.

Not too much thats happened to me in the past has really scared the **** out of me, but thats not to say if I saw a ghost I wouldnt pass out :)

I am really scared of death and dead bodies though. On two occasions I was visiting people that worked in the hospital and they wanted to try and take me down to the morgue. The first time I was terrified but said I would do it...I got too terrible at the door and literally ran from it. The second time it happened, my friend's dad (who runs the hospital) merely mentioned that the morgue was in the basement and after that I just felt really uncomfortable and anxious...I had to get out of the building pretty quickly. I think I just have a fear of dying, and Im always afraid I will die too young...Ive always felt like that.

Ghosts and dieing in a car accident, a kid at my school died in one last year and it just put serious fear in me and I just get chills and a sense of erieness(sp?) thinking about that.

Im not petrified, but heights get to me, falling off a huge building scares me too.

I probably got a ton more, but those are the ones that come to mind.

    Spiders and Snakes.

But especially Spiders, they just give me the creeps.

Can't handle them, gotta crush them when given the chance.

Oh, and death. Did I mention death? Having just escaped the hospital last week following some mystery infection, I can tell you the thought of never getting out of that hospital at age 49 scared the bejusus out of me.

    Boredom. :)

Ghosts and similar figures do freak me out quite a bit. I try to avoid reading stories if I want to sleep! LOL I couldn't watch "The Grudge" for more than a minute.

Dead bodies too. I would NEVER get close to a morgue.

There are things that scare me and things that terrify me... Spiders scare me... Roaches scare me... The idea that i'll always just be me scares me... Then there are the things that terrify me... Thankfully, they're not real... Oddly enough, though, i usually have to think about those things in order to fall asleep, everynight...

Not to start a whole 9-11 tangent, but the most scared I have ever been was lying in bed that night. I lived maybe 5 miles away from Newark Airport, where the attacks were launched from. To witness all the destruction that day really had me wonder if I'd live to see another.

What's scary? Think about this: The generation that is rioting at the notion of having to pass a test to graduate from high school will be running the world when you retire. (Picture Paris Hilton in a voting booth. Aaaaggghhh!)

As you get older, and observe the changes in society, the notion that you're not immortal becomes easier to accept.

When I was a kid I was frightened by 2 things, they both have still stayed with me until this day.

    Nuclear weapon attack

I watched a lot of movies when I was a kid & was always reminded of it during the Reagan years. I really thiught it was going to happen. Now that terrorist can make a dirty bomb & sneek into the country, not a day goes by with out me thinking of another attack on the US.

    Cancer

Cancer has taken most of my family members & some friends, I think more of has to do was watch them suffer with the pain. No one should ever have to go through this but I'm most people have.

Not necessarily things that scare me, but rather "concern" me. I don't want to die with regrets. As I've grown, I've always been fascinated with listening to what older people have to say about life. When my sisters snickered towards my grandpa's stories, I sat enthralled, listening to some incredible tales that I'll cherish my entire life. And similarly now with older friends of my parents, as well as my parents, too. Several years ago I started asking myself, "While on my deathbed, what will I look back at and regret doing or not doing?" It's easy to get caught up in trivial issues that seem so terribly important at the time. I just want to try and enjoy life and not miss out on good opportunities, and keep a focus on what's important. It's amazing how much insignificant s**t we allow to occupy our lives.

The other concern I have is myself or my loved-ones being victims of random idiocy, the kind of carelessness you read about often where people are hurt or killed because of another's oblivious attitude.

    I hate spiders...

The other thing that really scares me is failure. I don't want to die having never accomplished anything.

Let me start off by saying this thread is kinda gay.
Now that I've got that covered, I am scared of

Jail. Have you heard what goes on in there?

Clowns. Like pennywise, Theyre all evil. Only some choose to show it. Others live in the sewer.

I was involved in a very serious accident (run over by a 78,000 pound cement mixer while bicycling) and sincerely believed that I was going to die while I was being tended to by a team of EMT's. The pain was excruciating and I later learned that the state trooper/EMT that rode next to me as I was being airlifted to a trauma hospital didn't say a word to me because he thought I didn't have a chance. I had the opportunity to face down death a couple of other times in the days after the accident when I had a serious reaction to some medicines administered to me. I had other opportunities to ponder my mortality since I had six separate surgeries in total.

My point is that before this accident, I was terrified of death and hoped to live a long, long life and pass quietly in my sleep. However, I have learned that aside from suicide, none of us can choose the time or place of our death. As a result, our lives are best spent not worrying about things we truly have no control over but working hard to have a full and successful life, however you define that. I'll get off the soapbox now and add that spiders scare the bejesus out of me!
