Oh, and neither car is meant as a daily driver .. which is why I chose to use the phrase "caught in the rain" as opposed to implying that you'd be in it by default. This is a bit off topic since the Enzo isn't in this comparison, but the Enzo to me is much less of a driver's car than the CGT. Put a shifter in my right hand and a clutch pedal under my left foot any day of the week thank you. Bill in Brooklyn
Get an F430 and an F40. A CGT is going to cost you about 500K out the door. F430: 200k plus, F40 275K plus. This way you have both of best worlds. F40 being a true super car and the F430 and everyday sports car.
I believe the author decided, but remember that the CGT is still a very pure raw car; the drivers aid is only really abd, very minor, it doesnt have porsche's psm, or their awd system....And dont "driver's cars" have NA engines that rev up quickly, instead of a lag prone hi-boost engine? I still love the F40, but you cant compare cars from 15 years apart....

F40. personally don't like the carreras look at all.yeah it's new tech but i don't think the F40 will have any problem with the Porshe. a few years from know it's going to look dated.
I would rather get an F40 because on CGT is more electrical stuff and the F40 is a "driver car"! F40 is lighter than CGT (F40- 1230kg with about 110liter gas; CGT- 1380 empty )and and nearly the same torque (F40- 577nm; CGT- 590nm) and the CGT iisn´t very faster (F40- 324kmh; CGT- 330kmh). And i think that the F40 looks much better. BUT the CGT is open!!!
I have a 90 F40 & it seems to attract even more attnetion than my Countach did. If you REALLY like attention get the F40. The CGT is very cool but it isnt the attention grabber that the F40 is. Also the F40 is probably as low as it will get $ wise while the CGT hasn't even started its fall yet, and it WILL fall. Economically speaking, you should get the F40 & pick up a CGT later when the prices collapse. Chances are excellent you wont lose any $ in the F40 which is now a true investment vehicle Last thing is do you Really need a convertible ? I love convertibles but given the fact that the price will crater & you could lose some $$$ I would get the F40 & buy a Boxster S or a 996 Turbo cab when you want the top down
there are considerably more driver aids in my stradale than in the CGT which only has ABS brakes and completely defeatable traction control (then again the CGT has power brakes and steering though off the track the absense of either would suck badly). if the F40/CGT is going to be primarily driven on the street, it's absolutely a no brainer to go with the CGT. the F40 doesn't even have power steering and requires a 10 point turn to do anything. the CGT has AC, a real stereo, leather, etc as well as a 4 yr/50k bumper to bumper. it is very porsche like (ie: mellow) when you want it to be, but when you want to unleash it, it (with street tires) will embarass stradales badly in any venue and any track. put on a set of R tires (or even corsa equivalents) or slicks and it will molest most everything you will encounter at the track. lastly, it sure is nice being able to take off the top in S. Calif. the f40 is a very very special car, but it's much more enjoyed on the track than it is in the real world where it would be a PIA for any meaningful city driving (especially in LA where the poster who started this thread lives). additionally, there is little doubt the F40 will hold it's value much better than a CGT purchased today.
the clutch difficulty is 100% myth which started primarily as a result of journalists who had the car for much less than a day. after a couple days (max), there is absolutely nothing to it. i find myself stopped at lights on inclines with suburbans right on my arse and it's no big deal.
Are you ben, lj from Rennteam? Porbally so since you both own the Greatest supercar ever build. (hopes he doesnt get flammed since its a ferrari board).
the CGT can easily be used as a daily driver with the possible exception of having to be ever vigilant re: the ride height. if porsche would have put an electronic nose lifter (ala the Enzo), the car would be a perfect daily. i drove mine in the rain 100+ miles the other day and it was completely uneventful.
yep. the guys on ferrari chat are not big flamers besides, i absolutely love my stradale and think very highly of ferrari. wayne is just asking for opinions too aid him in his decision and i'm just putting any of my experience out there.
Yes i know, but i also beleive he has already desicded on the F40. It was his descion, so i cant argue with that, But like i stated in pervious posts, the CGT is a much nicer and more driver friendly car. This is all my Opinion.
i knew depreciation was a large concern of his and if i remember correctly, i really pushed the "CGT is going to get killed $wise" angle when answering his questions. the F40 probably is a better choice for him given how important a factor that is for him. all of us place different importance on different factors, but we all speak from our own frame of referrence (mentally prioritizing those factors automatically) when we render our options. that's probably why it's best to get as much feedback as possible from as many different people as possible.
Well noted. Thank you. But to truly believe it, I'd have to drive the car for a few days. When are you not using it? Bill in Brooklyn
F40 is one of the last great super cars. Even though the CGT is a great car it still has the same name as a Boxter that you see 1000 times a day..
Better late than never I guess. I love my F40. I love my CGT. I guess I'm a car polygamist. I couldn't decide which one is better anymore than I could choose one of my kids over another.
I own an f 40 and have diven a cgt tough choice both wonderful in their own way but if retaining value is a concern I think the f40 is the way to go. the cgt is just not the benchmark that the f40 was assuring its future value
