    We finished the wooden Buck and now are finishing the wire frame to check clearances for Rad, steering arms etc.

    Also shot of 0846's wheels ready to be mounted for the Canadian International Auto Show. In the background is my 1932 DV 32 Stutz.
    Hemi Head, Overhead four cam, four valve heads, V 8.

    Note we've removed gas tank for a touch of welding/pressure testing.

    This might be a stupid question ... but I won't let that scare me from asking it, BUT will the alloy be wrapped around the wire frame you have made, OR is the wire frame just a test/jig thing?

    The jig serves several purposes. It lets us see the shape and compare it to photo's to make sure we're happy with the shape. It allows us to make sure everything fits inside and check the form futher. After we mount the Rad we can see how the hole in the center of it for the hand crank lines up re: photos. The panels are pounded by hand on sand filled leather bags and hung on the wire form like a dressmakers form. The wooden buck is used the same way but is more robust and can take a bit of pounding and welding upon. When we're done we'll paint the wire form and the wooden buck and mount them to the wall.

    While I'm sure someone, somewhere, is having a heart attack looking at these pics, I think it's great to see 002C sitting in a shop, half-apart (w/license plate!) and getting some cool new (old) parts made for it by people who care more for the car than they do impressing others in the mutual masturbation society of historic automobiles.

    Tom. 002C's original body was removed in the early 50 ies and replaced by a Barchetta like body by it's owner built and designed by Motto. Parts of that original body may have wound up on the Jag/Special depicted on this thread.

    In the 60ies Stan Nowack restored 002C and commissioned a body that looked like 002C's original 159s body. Stan sold off the Moto body for $350. The 159s nose that Stan commissioned will not be touched and can bolt back on as I chose. When 002C ran at the MM the 159s nose was changed by Ferrari, probably to increase airflow/ cooling and this is the nose we are now building as I also think it looks a bit nicer.

    MANY Ferrari and other racecars for that matter no longer have their original bodies. That list is long. The number of racecars that still have their original body is much shorter. J6 is on that list 0846 is not. In the end I think that Bob said it best:
    "It's for me and my friends my stories I tell."

    As for the actual grille which fits the grille opening - what is it constructed of?

    I think the new nose piece actually fits the design better than the flat nose. The lines of the hood flow into the grill much more smoothly. It's nice to see in progress photos and the process involved in making the nose, thanks.

    Jim...I watched 002C getting rebodied under the direction of Stan Nowak. The project was started when Stan worked at Grand Prix SSR in Setauket. Stan was an employee, the principals being Jim McAllister and Al Meyer. He had 2 gifted men on the project, Tom Selby and his partner, Gino. Tom and Gino opened their own shop in the middle of the job. They moved a few miles away, to St. James under the name of Britalia Coachworks. Tom is an English "panel beater", as he called himself. Gino, who fabricated parts, later had heart problems and Britalia ceased to exist. Tom is in southern NJ, I believe. I have a wonderful publicity photo of the car ( 7 x 7 ) with both Tom and Gino in it. E-mail me with your address and I'll send a copy to you. [email protected].

    Everything comes full circle. I knew Stan when he was at WWOC and before that when he rented space from Eno DePasquale who beat a panel or two and helped me with my Lola.
    Tom taught John Hajduk, who fit the NOS coupe body to 0846 and is making the MM nose for 002C. John was interested in looking Tom up and remembered he lived in NJ.

    Thanks. I'll snap some more photo's this weekend. One thing happened that I've not come across before. We found a very rare period correct rally clock for 002C.

    We sent it in for restoration. It turns out that the dial is so radioactive that all the radium has to be removed by a specialist before it can be rebuilt!
