I'd hazard a guess that most track days are filled with 911s, not Boxsters. I'd also hazard a guess that most track days are filled with 1960-2000 or so 911s and not brand spanking new ones. Though there are a few people out there slinging their brand new 911 Turbos out there on the track, more of them than people slinging their same priced Ferrari around the track anyway. Besides, there are plenty of message boards where the small-penis jokes are directed at Porsche and Ferrari equally.
Aahhh...the never-ending rant from all those ricers. Why is it that Ferrari owners never seem to feel the need to diss other makes? As for those ricers that constantly feel the need to dump on Ferrari, IMO, it is clear that they feel threatened and inadequate, and therefore they feel the need to boost their low self esteem by belittling others. Has anyone ever stopped to think that there also may be some jealousy involved? Whatever happened to ''different strokes for different folks.''
A little friendly teasing is fun...but I feel a kinship to all car nuts and I feel shocked if someone disses my car. Sports cars come in all shapes, sizes and logos. Porsches are great at what they do, as are Lamborghinis, Lotuses and Ferraris. Each marque do things in a different way. 0-60? Get a Viper or a Lamborghini. Handling in turns? Get a Lotus. Reliability and daily driver friendly? Get a Porsche. Overall performence plus "mystique"? Get a Ferrari. People who dis other cars are posers, not car people. Ken
Absolutely agree. A while back I ran into a fellow I believed was a fellow car buff. He was driving a Porsche Turbo, I was in the Maserati. After a brief, pleasant conversation about the two marques, he inquired if I had any other cars. When I responded that I had a specialty low-production Corvette, he said snobbishly, "Ah, the other end of the extreme." I believe his intent was to make me feel small -- it had the opposite effect. Love for things automotive has little to do with brands and everything to do with rarity, pleasure, design, and machinery with a personality. Brad
Rarity? So you'd be happy to be snobbish towards an S2000, 914, Miata or 944? You're right, it is about pleasure, design and machinery with a personality. You are wrong as well, rarity has nothing to do with it. Indeed it is the idea of rarity having anything to do with it that gives Ferrari owners the negative connotation.
Yeah, I would drop the rarity, design and machinery with a personality leaving only pleasure. If a car can give it's driver pleasure, then it is deserving of acceptance and respect.
Ah, thinking, thinking... looking around, over shoulder... Ah, yeah. You betcha! Damn cars. Who cars about em? Dr "Who me?" Who
Reading all the reasons a Ferrari is or isn't a penis stretcher prompts this response. What do you call it when a woman drives an F-car ???? Stereo-typing the sports car owner, whether it's Italian, German, English, Japanese, or American, frankly, has nothing to do with the car .... It's the person who has the attitude. So rationally speaking, if the car is the person .... Then ....... I started MY mid-life crisis at age 16. I worked to buy my first car, a 1967 Chevelle SS. Then a Fiat X1/9 at age 21. Mid to late 20's added a couple Lancia's, and I bought my first 12 Cyl Jaguar (Sedan). My "entire" 30's saw all three of my Maserati's. My early fourties saw my my second 12 Cyl Jaguar (Coupe) and my first Corvette (C5 soft top). After entering my fourties, I have my third Jaguar (8 Cyl Sedan), and finally a Ferrari (my Little Dino). Sprinkle some other american cars among all these. Oh, add a wife to the crisis sometime after the first Maserati, and subtract her before the C5. So where does this leave me, well... all these cars were driven and enjoyed - mostly driven alone and at speed. Still haven't changed, it's the same size now - as it has always been. So enjoy your car, which ever one you have. If I get trash from some Ferrari, Corvette, or Jaguar hater I just grab the car wax and head to the garage.
Ferrari did make a $7K 6-cylinder car ... the 246GT Dino. They're reselling for around $90-100K these days. Would I want one? (Do we have a smiley for :raises hand: ?) I do park my 328 at the local supermarket. What fun is a Ferrari you never drive? Granted, I didn't pay $100K for a 328 -- I bought the one I would use. Except that I can't take ice cream home in the storage bin by the engine. But then, I have to be careful not to put ice cream on the right side of the trunk in the EVO, too. (The exhaust is on that side.) (If you mix two parts pasta and one part rice you get ... my garage. Yum. )
A Ferrari salesman once told me that it "got old selling ****-extenders to ****-heads". Whatever did he mean by that?
I asked my wife and since I purchased my 360, my penis is at least 10 inches limp. Oh well. But seriously, I could have bought two loaded twin turbos, but who cares I dont like porsches on me, on others I think they are great, thumbs up to any exotic owner its all fraternal right? MM
I look at cars the same way I look at women. I like em all! Each has it's own naturally pleasant attributes. I own different marques and enjoy each of them in their own right. 360 Spider, Testarossa, Viper, Corvette (58 classic), Prowler, Jaguar, Dodge Dually, Durango, Jeep and even a nice FXSTC Softail. Each has it's own personality and gives satisfaction the way each was intended. I take them to car shows, just to hang with other car affectionados. I only have one woman, my wife, so extending a certain appendage doesn't even apply. (Not that I need extending hehe) But I still enjoy looking at other marques.
I agree with your point. However, that's not EXACTLY what you said in your original post. But hey......
