i've been avoiding starting this thread because i just don't want to face the reality... ...that my camera died. The one thing that lets me see an Enzo and helps remember it forever has passed on... All the time we spent together, all the places we've been, all the Enzos and other Ferraris we've seen, all the serial numbers we've recorded together - all of that is in the past and i can only relive those memories through my Image Transfer folder... Never again will i hear her shutter at my touch... i'm deeply saddened... Yet, this untimely and terrible event comes with an even more twisted after-plot... ...i cannot be alone. i MUST replace her. It sounds so emotionless, so chauvanistic, so needy, i know... but it is a fact i must face and must deal with. Even worse, i must have someone JUST like her...! My memory stick MUST fit inside my new mistress just as it did, my deceased one... What i mean is, i have all these memory sticks and for what...? Are there any cameras out there that will take a Sony CyberShot memory stick...? Or am i left with no choice but to purchase ANOTHER CyberShot...? It would be foolish to buy a different camera and have these useless memory sticks... Anyone have any suggestions...?
Media is cheap..get the camera that does what you want, regardless of media. BTW, how many Memory Sticks do you have? Total capacity. Carbon, you must get a hold of yourself and move on to higher res, faster shutters, brighter colors. She would want it that way Now if you have to put the Memory Stick somewhere...

LOL...! Unfortunately, media is NOT cheap... i have one 256mb memory stick (it cost me about $100 when i bought it!), two 124mb memory sticks (about $50 new) and two 16mb memory sticks (emergency only, other pretty useless)... EVERYtime i went to a Ferrari event with that camera, i used up ALL the space on all five sticks... When i went out to Monterey, i downloaded all of my pictures on Mark PDX's lap top and erased and restocked, taking about 900+ pictures... A friend of mine here had a party last year and i took 1,300 pictures during the course of the party - that wasn't more than 8 hours...! i have to have LOTS of media when i go on these trips and what i have now wasn't satisfying my picture load, but it's sure better than nothing... Now i'm pretty much back to the drawing board and can't finance and new camera AND new media...
I just purchased a Canon PowerShot SD300 digital camera. The 1 GB memory card was $49.00 (after a rebate). Surely that's not an impossible cost. You can take a lot of pics, even at high resolution, with a 1 GB card.
A bit off topic but I hate to start new thread, does anyone know what the name of the Nikon digital body is that fits all it regular (i.e. last 30 years) lenses? Any experience? PM if you would be so kind. Thanks.
Check again big boy.... I got an Olympus Stylus 410 a couple months ago and bought a 256mb memory card for $55, that was the Olympus brand memory card which was $7 more than the XX brand memory card. Then last week I was at Circuit City and saw the same memory card for $39 after a mail in rebate. The camera is basically the same as my old one, you saw how it was abused, but it is 4 megapixel and has a few other additional features. It was $299 w/o sales tax in OR but a couple weeks ago I saw it at Best Buy here in TX for $289.
Whats ur budget ? Do u want to take amazing pics and be proud of yourself ? Get an Digital SLR . Im saving to get a rebel EOS 300 ..Body plus a lens will cost around 1400$ but it will be worth it.

You don't need an SLR to take good pics. Just a good cam with with a good range of manual settings and knowledge of basic photography. Furthermore, if you think a digiSLR is going to take good pics out of the box, you have something coming to ya. No budget will make a newbie look anything more than a newbie. My cam is a pocketcam, an A400. $150. I can only set the ISO and exposure range, but I can make it take very nice pics. The Digital Rebel is good for people who want to feel good about being a consumer. Like people who buy Apple's products. People that want to feel good about taking nice pix chose something else for a lot less money.
Well, actually, the digi Rebel is a little more than just trying to feel good about being a consumer. For someone who is an advanced amateur who intends to make a little income off the rather exhorbitant investment...it makes some sense. I'm a Canon girl, and I've already got enough money stuck in SLR lenses that upgrading to the digi version is logical. But if its just for everyday non-commercial uses, save your money. It truly is your eye for photography that makes the difference...the tools can only do so much. Oy, I sound like a training manual... But for normal reality, I use a Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-S85. You can get them on ebay, etc for about $250 now...and they use your memory stick! I love my Sony...to the point I keep it with me at work, just in case I see something worth remembering.
The D70 does take older lenses, on lenses that are not CPU or auto focus, many of the camera's features do not work, however they are compatible. As far at the arguement that a P&S camera will make as good pictures as a DigitalSLP, that is not the case. It does depend on what you are doing with it, and it also depends on your knowledge and willingness to learn. Just like a regular film camera, a P&S does not give you the same flexibility in settings, or accessories. That being said, I love my D70 , so maybe I am justifying the purchase. Carb, Memory is cheap as dirt... maybe not in terms of what you already spent, but to replace the memory sticks with new stuff is really not too expensive. I have two compact flash cards that are high speed, and they both ran me under $80 a piece. They are the third fastest on the market, and do a great job. Overall, if you know nothing about photography, then don't get a digital SLR, it will do you very little good beyond having a really expensive camera that you don't know how to use. Instead get a good point and shoot with a good zoom and you will be really happy. Don't limit yourself because you have memory sticks already, they really are cheap to replace, and you can sell your old ones to offset the costs. Craig

Carbon: do you make prints of any of your shots or just online publsihing (your shots are taking over FML CLassifieds. Nice work!). If you only publish online, then a 5 mp shot is wasted. Get a 3 mp camera and shoot at 1 mb and get a 1 GB media device. $70US at Fry's (outpost.com) Many camera take the IBM microdrives at 2-4 GB ($130-$180US). Slower than flash memory, however. If you're only shooting 1 mp images, they load fast even on a Microdrive. Memory Sticks are somewhat more expensive because they are proprietary to Sony. I personally am not a fan of the "get a 3mp camera and shoot in 1mp" philosophy, for two reasons. Reason number one, the internet dosen't need to be low resolution anymore, and it sucks when you find a picture you like and it is in 800x600(yes, I know that 1mp is not that low resolution, but often images posted on the web are), what the hell can you do with an image that small. Second, shooting at 3mp, and normal quality (on most cameras) the image size would be under a half a meg giving you roughly 2000 images on a 1gig card. That being said, I personally can't stand going to a site with "high res images" and getting a 1024x768 image. That is not high res, it will only print a 3x5 image roughly. I upload all my pictures in full size, and let the program on my server sort them out. For the amount of time it takes to have your computer resize images(30 seconds) to me it is not worth finding an image that I want to print and seeing that I shot it in an low quality that is really not suitable for printing. Space is cheap...hard drives are like $60 for 120 gigs, and hosting images online can be done for fairly cheap, if not free. Just venting some of my frustration with low resolution pictures claiming to be "HI-RES" when they are not.. maybe I'm bitter, I don't know. Craig
I have a digital rebel and love it.. I dont "resale" any of my pictures but i do print them off an put them in frames around the house... you dont have to be selling your pictures to get the total enjoyment of the SLR and digital experience... although the "cheap stuff" is attractive in some ways. (IE mpegs and such).. i will never trade up from my Digital rebel.
