You may be quite disappointed with the performance of your 308 after driving your 914.
Bill, I remember you calling me last Monday evening (Jan 31) offering to sell the car to me for about 20K. I recall that you said it was your uncle's and he had recently passed away (I even offered my condolences). After all, I do have a "wanted" ad here on Fchat searching for a project car... Regardless of where the truth lies, (uncle or "some lady") I wish you luck with it. If you are still keen to sell, I won't go above 10K Dave
Was not my uncle but it was my aunt who sold it to me after her boy freind died. As for your 10,000 price go pound sand!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Wife would like to see it go on Ebay!!!
Actually, no. My middle name is not Richard (or Dick). As I said - good luck with it. If you need help to do it yourself, the good people on this forum will certainly offer their collective expertise - a resource that no amount of money can buy. If you do decide to get someone else to do it, then be sure to check their reputation, again on this forum. There are way too many stories of people who have been ripped off. Anyway, just chill and enjoy your good fortune. Dave
Finally an explanation as to how you came upon such a sweet deal. You stole it from your grieving aunt. Real nice.
I think he just used up his Fchat good will. Hmm, may be a bit difficult to get people to give advice on this project.
This is amazing, Lusso64 makes a public post that basicly acusses masonfamily04 of being a lier (and wrongly I might add) and a few of you attack masonfamily04 for responding to that VERY negative and obvioulsy mean sprited post and yes I admit that masons response was harsh but under the circumstances I can understand. Ferrari Chat is a great resource most of the time but in this case lusso64 by making a public post like his proves that some have no class and for those of you that condone and defend lusso64 actions you are no better. Gee and guess what now I will get attacked but I posted knowing that the few classes people will do that, manson did not...that's the difference. Paul
Thanks Mr Thursby.. When I read your post it did make me a litle mad. But now that I have read your 2nd post, THANKS. As for the guys who now think I stole this car from my Aunt, you nead to chill. And well you are very wrong!!! When her boyfreind past away I was the only person that helped her threw a hard time. I went up to CT all the way from FL to move her my self with my 44ft inclosed car trailer. I also cleand her old house that was 12,000++ sf. I filled (20) 40 yard dumpsters full of trash from the basment of this house. I found three cars in the basment and a small kit helicopter. I took her on the net and showed her what his ferrari was worth in the state that I found it in (scaterd in parts all over the HOUSE with a blown motor). I worked for 3 days by my self just trying to get all the parts to the car. I love her very much, and I know what she did for me by seling it to me for that price. I know that if it was not for her I would never have the chance to owen a ferrari. Please all I whant from you guys is a little help and maybe some freinds!!!!
Bill, and everyone else~ I think, Bill, that I may be able to explain why this has gone out of the line you wanted. And Lusso, you should listen up too. I am 46 years old, and have been playing with cars and other junk my entire life. I know its nothing written in stone, but among people in buisness, there are two rules, maybe we could call them gentlemens rules. You never disclose what you paid for something, and you never tell what you were paid when you sold it. The reasons are many and very complex, but I think mostly it revolves around greed and jealousy. I think a third rule in this case would be someone spouting off private information in a public forum that is nobodies buisness. Yes Lusso, that is aimed at you. I would hope if anyone here where to call you about selling you thier car, that discrete information in a private conversation would remain private. Initially I felt Bill overreacted and I felt angry at his response. But in retrospect his anger is warranted. Bill, you didnt need to tell anyone what you paid, it was no ones buisness. And its never anyones buisness. I bought my 308 from Butch Hooper at a "good" price, and in respect to others, and to Butch Hooper who without whos help I may still be Ferrariless, what I paid will always be a secret. You got a deal, and I hope when the dust settles you still have your 308. I think your aunt would be very proud to see you make it run and see you driving it. You also dont need to explain why you were given the car, as again, its no ones buisness. I would hope if someday I give my step son my Ferrari, that he wont need to explain to anyone why he got it. In reflection, settle down a bit, and regain your awe of what you have. As far as the front cover goes, as long as the motor is all apart, you can have the bearing shaft bores align bored to match your block. Not really any big deal. Good luck. If you have any questions I can help with, please feel free to contact me.
I guess there are a couple parts to this story that I don't get (and don't know if I care to). Here is what I will state....... There are a LOT of turds/trolls that come to this board as they do on a lot of internet sites. I think that lusso was wondering who this guy was. HEre was a guy claiming this story and lusso saw some misinformation (the story WAS a little different in both cases) and called him on it. I don't think that is any different than what most others would have done if something was fishy. I would have. Then Mason calls him ******. That was unwarranted. Completely. And showed a lot about him IMO. When you are a newbie to a board, you better enter the room with your hand extended and a smile on your face. No one likes a newbie with an attitude. You need to build a little cred before you can spout off now and then. I didn't like the tone of him telling him to "pound sand" either. Just rubbed me the wrong way. And when people do that the first time you meet them (on a board) it usually means something. The real question I have that I don't get (the fishy part to me) is...... If his lifelong dream is to own a Magnum PI Ferrari, why would he sell this car (or attempt to) within weeks of finally getting one?? How does a guy who has a 44 foot enclosed car trailer and a full shop NOT think he can afford a car that typically can be had for 20-30K?? One would assume that, by owning that trailer, the guy has other toys (i.e. reasons for owning said trailer). Not to mention in his profile it reads under occupation "making a lot of cash." All asuumptions aside, I am just curious. Believe me, he does NOT owe me or anyone any explanations. It doesn't appear that he is trying to rip anyone off in ANY way or trying to pull a fast one. But those questions I have are just sticking in my mind. I usually stay out of these things but I had to throw my opinion out there this time.
It was very clear that he did not, initially, want to reveal the full story. Otherwise, he would have simply explained the situation in his first post instead of referring to his aunt as "the other person" and "the lady". Why hide it? Lusso posts what he knows and once revealed mansonfamily tells him very publicly what he can do with his offer and calls him ******. Give me a break. This forum can be invaluable to a Ferrari owner. Don't bite the hand that feeds you.
Come on guys, we all know how much emotion is involved with even the mear thought of owning a Ferrari. This guy is new at this, is probably very emotional about it, is trying to figure out how to act in a new crowd. He didnt need to explain anything to anyone, and if your read between the lines he was trying to be discrete. He tells Lusso it was his Uncles car. Maybe he didnt like saying Aunts live in BF's car? Obviously the Aunt had some issues with being left with what sounds like multiple projects that needed to be cleaned out, and it also sounds like the BF was kind of screwy, maybe blowing all of a the womens money on car toys and helicopter kit projects? Now I realise I am making some assumptions here, but really, it was none of OUR buisness how he got the car. And being it was a project with an engine scattered all over the house, maybe he just wanted to get an idea what the car was worth in that condition. $10K to a buyer sounds about right. But that should have stayed confidential information IMO, and I stand by that. So the guy owns a trailer and a bunch of equipment, still dont mean you have chunks of cash laying around to throw away, or that even if you did, that you would blow it on an Fcar. Many people seem to have much, yet are grossly overextended. Lets all lower our emotions a tad, and shake hands, another Ferrari may be spared being a parts car.
Hey Krowbar..... Those are assumptions you are making now too. Like i said, I usually wouldn't get into this but now that I am I have more to say about your reply "Come on guys, we all know how much emotion is involved with even the mear thought of owning a Ferrari." TRUE. BUT THAT EMOTION IS USUALLY POSITIVE AND IS NO EXCUSE FOR BEING RUDE. "This guy is new at this, is probably very emotional about it, is trying to figure out how to act in a new crowd." IF HE CAN'T FIGURE OUT HOW TO ACT IN A NEW CROWD THEN HE HAS A LOT MORE TO WORRY ABOUT THAN THIS 308. COME ON, HE IS A GROWN MAN. He didnt need to explain anything to anyone, and if your read between the lines he was trying to be discrete. He tells Lusso it was his Uncles car. THIS IS WHY LUSSO WAS JUST TRYING TO CALL HIM OUT (SO HE COULD FIND OUT THE REASON FOR THE TWO STORIES. IF ANYTHING, LUSSO WAS TRYING TO PROTECT THE BOARD FROM A TROLL/SCAMMER. HE DID PUIT IT UNDER "BARN FIND" AND CALLED A WOMAN WHO HE HAD ALSO REFERRED TO AS HIS AUNT AS "SOME WOMAN". And being it was a project with an engine scattered all over the house, maybe he just wanted to get an idea what the car was worth in that condition. HE OBVIOUSLY HAD A PRETTY GOOD IDEA WHAT IT WAS WORTH BY ASKING 20K. HE WAS TRYING TO SELL IT. HE ALSO OBVIOUSLY THINKS IT IS WORTH MORE THAN 10K SINCE HE TOLD LUSSO TO "POUND SAND" WHEN HE OFFERED 10K. So the guy owns a trailer and a bunch of equipment, still dont mean you have chunks of cash laying around to throw away, or that even if you did, that you would blow it on an Fcar. HE DID SAY THAT IT WAS HIS DREAM TO OWN A 308 SNICE HE GREW UP WATCHING MAGNUM PI. NOT TO MENTION IN HIS PROFILE HIS OCCUPATION TALKS ABOUT MAKING A LOT OF MONEY. Many people seem to have much, yet are grossly overextended. Lets all lower our emotions a tad, and shake hands, another Ferrari may be spared being a parts car. THIS WE DO AGREE ON. I DON'T MEAN TO POST THIS AS A FLAME TO YOU IN ANY WAY. CAN WE SHAKE HANDS TOO?? ;-)
What BS! Lusso has a private conversation where he heard Uncle not Aunt and then goes public on Ferrari Chat and insuinates the guy is a liar. The diffrence between aunt and uncle does not make the guy a troll or a liar. Lusso post was an uncalled personal attack plain and simple and he sure as hell was not protecting me from someone. Those that defend Lusso for making a public attack over a private conversation are simply wrong espically over Aunt/Uncle. Private conversations should remain private and Lusso should have confronted mason privately if the if thought he was mislead. The hand that feeds me sure as hell has more class then one who makes false accusations, personal attacks or inuendos like Lusso did and from those that defend such behavior. Mason called his a "dick" for trying to make him look like a liar in public not for his offer.......wake up. Nobody like to be called a liar in public. Paul
sloan83qv (Paul), What's so offensive about this post? I think that if I were lusso64 I would jump to the same conclusion - here's someone who is giving different stories to different people to get some advantage. Remember that lusso was told that the car was owned by someone who had passed away. Who hasn't had an experience buying a car /boat/house/etc where the seller or agent says something like that (or "going overseas", "lost my job", etc, etc) when it's not the truth. Well, recall that up to this point in the thread masonfamily has said nothing about it being from such a source, in fact he has been very "up-beat" and even called it's former owner ******! I think that lusso just smelled a bad smell about this & very politely in my opinion tried to "out" the matter. He has been more than gracious in accepting he may have made a mistake.
Agreed. And I never called anyone a troll or liar. I simply said there were a lot of them that frequent internet sites. And lusso saw conflicting stories and tried to out it to get the truth. That is IT. To say he wasn't prrotecting this board is not true. I appreciate ANYONE that speaks up on this board when something/one is fishy. Two different stories = one fishy character. And it will help us ALL down the road if everyone does their part to police it from time to time. This story still doesn't make any sense. But I could really care less. This is why I just don't get involved usually. I am done with this one.
