I recently puchased a 1990 TR. The dealer will be shipping it to me hopefully next week. The tires on the car have plenty of tread left, but no record can be found of how old they are. They are Goodyear Eagles, not sure of the model. I worked out a deal with the dealer to have them replaced before the car ships. Problem is I can't find any tires to fit the stock 5 lug rims. The main issue is the rear 10x16 rim. Most 255/50/16 tires have to be mounted on a rim no greater than 9". The Dunlop SP 8000 will work on a 10" wide rim, but no one has them available. One place told me they were being closed out. The only tire that I found was from the Tire Rack. A Sumitomo tire that didn't look to have very good feedback. Interesting thing is when you go to the Yokohama and Good year web sites they give their tire recommendations for a 90 TR. However, when you look at the tire specs again, rim width should not exceed 9". I even talked to a Yokohama tech specialist and he said their tires would not work on that 10x16 rim. When I explained that their site recommended these tires for my stock TR rims, he said he would make sure that was removed. I've emailed Good year with the same question. I've already done thread seaches on this and am wondering if anyone has replaced their stock 5 lug 8x16 and 10x16 wheels with new tires recently?

    Thanks,
    Brent

I recently went through the same thing but I wanted Michelin Pilots. I had to settle for the Goodyear Eagle HP in 255/50/16 for the rear. They fit well and work fine. I just like Pilots better.

btw Mrs. Rifledriver grew up in Glendora, nice town.

Same problem here. I went with the Goodyears too although the tread width is not quite as wide as the original tire.:(

    Brian,

Those tires look good to me. It's just the specs that are making me scratch my head. Their site recommends those tires yet the specs on them say no rim greater than 9". I hope to hear from them on Friday. Nice to know someone is using them as they were my first choice. I moved to Glendora 7 years ago. We like it too.

Duane, do mean the width of the tread pattern or the actual width of the tire it self is narrower?

    What was I thinking? hehe

Yep, it is the actual width of the tire that is narrower. :)

    Sorry.
