Yesterday I traded my Dino 208gt4 for Mondial 8. Originally it is a US version but the car is converted to EU specs. Clocks are changed and the cat removed. In 1995 the car is exported from the State of California to The Netherlands in europe. The history of the last 10 "european" is complete but I have some bugs in the US history. Maybe someone on Fchat recognizes the car and has some info for me. 1 of the US papers mentions: State of California Certificate of Title Registered owner(s) BRIDGER JOHN MARTIN OR KATHLEEN DENISE 3145 SKYLINE DR OCEANSIDE CA 92056 Anybody who knows John Martin Bridger or Kathleen Denise Bridger?? Also I have a bill for maintanance and PPI. BOBILEFF MOTORCAR COMPANY 9924 MESA RIM ROAD SAN DIEGO Also have 2 other questions to solve: On a plate in at the driverssite (picture) there is the name of the importer: KAREN BETH CHAMBERS. Is this a former US Ferrari importer? Or an owner? Also you can see: Manufactured Ferrari 9-83 This is really a 1982 car. I checked "The Original V8 Ferrari" of Keith Bluemel. Hope somebody on Fchat has more info for me to complete the history of the car. Please post here, PM or e-mail me. Thanks in advance. Here are some pictures I took today on my first drive out with the Mondial.

Many congratulations on the Mondial purchase Roel! Must be great to have a new toy! I wish you a lot of joy with it and hope to see you at various events in the future! Thanks for posting the pics, they look great! Good luck in finding the answers to your questions! I also hope that your former Dino 208GT/4 finds a great new owner that respects and drives the car like it deserves and brings it to meetings and drive outs. Just like you did. Already saw the Dino for sale on the site you mentioned! Nice price for a great car. Should I sell my recently bought Alfa again? It makes me think again... but on the other hand... I'm still patient... for now I'm extremely happy with Mathias and my 156 Sportwagon My Ferrari-day will surely come!
Hey Roel, nice find on the Mondial. It's very nice! What made you want to give up the 208 for the new stallion?
Great looking car Roel; much better looking out in the open, then in the attic in Almere ... really great car!
Roel, first of all, congratulations with your car! Very nice! One of the most important things I want to tell you, is that your car is NOT a US-version, but a EUROPEAN version. The 17-digit VIN of your cars shows that it is a European version (the "'B" on the 8th digit). This might indicate that it was imported into the US in September 1983. Karen Beth Chambers might be the person who imported the car into the US. Maybe a FChat member from the US can call Dick Merrit regarding the necessary EPA/DOT conversion when it was imported in the US. It might give you a clue about the country it was originally delivered too. I think you can contact Dick at 202-366-5300 (US phone number of course).
BOBILEFF is still in business. http://www.bobileff.com/ Bobileff Motorcar Company Sales, Service and Parts Ferrari Lamborghini Maserati 6730 Top Gun Street San Diego, California 92121-4114 Ph: (858) 622-1600 Fx: (858) 587-0579 Em: [email protected]
Thank you very much Edvar, I will try to contact Dick Merret this week. That the car is an EU version does surprise me, but I allready thought there are very much european details on the car. More "converted to EU specs" parts then you normally see on a US car. Now I am sure the 72.000 on the speedometer are KM not Miles. I thought they made a mistake in the papers. If you ever find more info about this VIN number please let me now. Think we'll see eachother once at a meeting at Spa, Zandvoort or Assen. Thank you very much again.
Maybe it's worth to check the whole car again for any decals which might give you a clue about the country it was originally delivered to. And maybe you can register it at the Ferrari owners site to get more info, although I don't know what they can supply. I looked for more info, but couldn't find anything yet about the American history. But I hope that Bobileff and/or Dick Merrit can help you with it.
FSpA will be able to tell you the original dealer and where the first customer was, but not the name. Good resource and they are pretty quick on answering those questions. Registering is free. Its the only cheap part of ownership.
Roel, congratulations on your new purchase! To bad the Dino is gone from Roermond, it was a beautiful car and those carburators sounded good! There was another Mondial in Roermond about 4 years ago parked regularly on the Willem II singel but I've never seen it anymore. On the registration part I from your car it only lists the year of manufacture but if you go to the RDW site and check out their new service, you will find the exact date, here is the link, enter your license plate number: https://info.apk.nl/ovi/(pfzjue55d5rbh455vr422avo)/arvinvoer.aspx This way I found out I have to wait until june until my '80 GTSi is officially an old timer and excempt from roadtax.
Thanks Bert, RDW says first registration is 30 june 1982. I hope the owners site can tell me in witch country. I know the Mondial went to CA in 1983 and in 1995 it came to Holland.
Roel: Judging by the paint smears on the DOT sticker, the car has been repainted. Is rosso the original color as far as you can tell? Erik
Hi Erik, yes the car is repainted. As far as I can see and also the documents it is an original rosso corsa car. Question: where does DOT stands for?
DOT = Department of Transportation Its the silver sticker inside the door jam. My 365 has the same type.
