Can anyone help me find some source for bushings for my 77 308 GTB. I have tried the regular advertizers who point me to the local autozone. In my local autozones they can barely understand what I am saying (I am a Brit) let alone find or order correctly these parts. Does anyone know a specific source I can just call and order from. I there are 8 bushings in all I think?
IIRC, the 308 rear sway bar doesn't use any "bushing" in 8 places? What item in this jpeg are you looking for? If it's item 3 (used 8 places) -- those are A-arm bushings -- www.energysuspension.com -- 308 use the 30mm -- either 13.3101G (graphite impregnated) or 13.3101 (red). Image Unavailable, Please Login
What you see in the diagram above as #22 is one of the TWO bushings for the rear sway bar. 91tr is correct, there are only 2, so make sure if you're really talking about the sway bars rather than that A-arms (control arms). In any case, you can get EITHER kind from Rutlands.
I'd say it even stronger than that Mike -- Items 3 & 22 have possible aftermarket sources, but for anything else in that drawing, you can only get them thru someone like T Rutlands, Ricambi, FerrariUK, etc.. Now if we just knew what he needed
Steve, I just hope HE knows what he needs! Yes, I'd probably go with Energy Suspension urethane replacements regardless of which of those it is.
OK I need 22x 2, 26x 2, 27x 2 and 28 x 2. I didn't realize 27 and 28 were sperate as mine have fused together. Does this make sense?
Yes, and you are indeed wanting anti-roll bar bushings for both the "mounting blocks" and the "end links". The end-link ones are probably going to be Ferrari-specific. The mounting block ones you can get from anywhere as long as you tell them the diameter of your bar, but as long as you're at it I'd suggest upgrading to urethane rather than regular rubber.
I have some poly and ally bushes fitted to my 308gt4. As your a Brit give QV London a call I got mine from them when I fitted a larger bar. Made a big difference to the Handling.
OK I am getting there now. I will measure the diameter and order the urethane mounting blocks from energy suspension. I will see if anyone makes the end link ones (maybe in the UK) and if not buy from Rutlands who are down the road from me. I am surprized no one sells a complete set in urenthane as a package and will let you all know if I manage to get some aftermarket end links. Thanks for all the replies.
JT -- My mistake for assuming that you meant 8 of one part only rather than the total # of parts. Items 26, 27, and 28 are typically F part specialist items only (T Rutlands, Ricambi, FerrariUK...) so I'm not surprised that you're having difficulty finding those (item 28 is normally not replaced unless damaged).
Yeah, I think those are Ferrari specific parts you want. I think it was Verell who used some urethane ones, but he had to turn them down on a lathe to get them to fit. Dave
We used 1" Energy Suspension end link bushings from AutoZone for Jonathan's. I had to bore the IDs a bit. I used a lathe, but you could do it with a good sharp drill bit just as well. They were a snug press fit, but have held up well. See this thread in the old Fchat for a good overview of what we did, including part #s. Luckily the pix survived the hard drive restoration! http://www.ferrarichat.com/discus/messages/112/320732.html
Definitely read that link that Verell posted. I'm delighted to see that the pics survived. It has part numbers, etc. In summary, if you have a drill and access to a small press you can do this repair for about $25 using polyurethane bushings, better than stock. Mine have stood up for 2 years and look as good as the day they were installed. Birdman
FYI, my local AutoZone never has jack sh*t that I need. I am convinced that Pep Boys and Autozone are only useful for windshield wiper refills and "2 Fast 2 Furious" merchandising. (They don't even have a reliable supply of decent synthetic oil). I bought my ES bushings mail order from Summit Racing. Birdman
Fantastic, thanks for this link I am going to do the same and hopefully can use a drill to machine out the center if needed as I don't have a lathe. Will also repaint the bar and go for the red.
Get some extras bushings, it will take some experimenting to figure out which drill size to use to get the fit right, so you may end up scrapping a couple in the process. They're pretty cheap, so no big expense. BTW, the drill bit will want to screw itself into the soft polyurethane. On another project with similar poly, I found that running the drill bit fairly fast, & with very slow feed seemed to work pretty well. The hole size always seemed to end up a bit smaller than the drill bit's size.
