Good point about dissimilar metals. The only exposed/contact part of these stems is the shaft, fortunately, and that is a loose tolerance hole. The rest sits on rubber washers, still............................

I weighed my stock 7.5 X 14" wheels with XWX tires against the new reproduction 16" wheels with Yokohamas and the weight difference on the fronts were about 3-4 lbs heavier. The rears were between 4-5 lbs leading me to believe that the XWX tires weigh a lot!

For average street driving the difference is inconsequential to me. If I was racing it would be another matter.

I have indeed experienced that "black crumbling fuzz" syndrome in the past.

 

My Cromodora cast wheels, 16" weighed out as follows:

16 x 7" = approx. 11 lbs.
16 x 8" = approx. 13 lbs.

No tire of course...

NO MORE BLACK FUZZ, start with tarnish, rub well and seal the deal...

 

I've run three sets of tires on the same set of chromed steel stems, still look solid.

I too had a problem spending money for 16" wheels and then having the 390s sitting in the garage collecting dust. The TRXs are RIDICULOUSLY priced. I have since seen several 308s with 16" wheels and they look SO much better. So, when the TRXs need replacing I’ll bit the damn bullet and get 16” wheels and make end tables out of the 390s.

The repro's are 16's. I want a 17" wheel that looks exactly like that, or at least pretty damned close. Am I just SOL?

 

Never seen OEM patterns past 16", but aftermarket goes taller........

LZ $445 front and $495 rear ($1880). Not cheap but not bad for a custom fit 17x8 x 9" wheel. Nick also sells them but I don't know if he has the 17" sizes (I think he's got the 18" and prices start at $2400 a set - check his site for confirmation though)

Not that I am aware of. The closest would be the 390 mm wheel which is equal to 15.3".

 

Yes of course the boxer and daytona had 15" star mags. the 365GTB4 had 15x7.5 F&R and the the LM version had 15x9" & 15x11" really cool Campagnolo star mag wheels. Believe it or not I saw a gt4 with either boxer or daytona mags at the Santa Barbara Concours about8 years ago which had these mounted. from what I understood the spline mounted rims have an insert that bolt into a pattern exactly like the 5 bolt 308. Here is a pic of a F1 car at PB this year, funny I had not noticed the bolts before now sure must have a pain th change during the race! ;-) Anyway I love these stle star wheels and would have painted my rims this color but my wife said she would leave me, I almost did anyway as I have seen some cool boxers with the gold wheels. The Boxer wheels looked very cool on the GT4 wonder if the LM version ran them?

I bet those tires are real easy to find

 

The reason I am interested in 15" star mags is I would like to have a set for my '72 hot-rodded Euro Dino GT with changeable drop gears for spirited driving. Michelin has reintroduced the low profile TB5 Dot approved range of tires and the set-up might be just the ticket. One photo of a Dino at an auto show had a Dino with star mags.

 

I was thinking more along the lines of the common 5-lug variety. Didn't realize there was a hub conversion on some of those splined wheels.

I thought the Boxer was metric or was that just the later models?

 

Man, if only they were chrome and spinners!
