355 flywheel

Just doing a repack. Found that this 98 F1 car had no, nada, zip, grease, totally dry. Hadn't leaked, I think it never had any! On the back was 222gr in white paint from the factory. Interestingly, that was almost the weight of grease to fill it.

Any thoughts from the ex dealer techs here?

Years back when I was at The Chequered Flag in London, we had a multi toned red Alfa Spyder, the salesmen would tell a punter that the painters on the factory line would often pick up a different spray gun after a break, and the paint would be a shade off!

 

While working for one of the smaller F1 teams in the mid 70s, Friday was always a "liquid lunch" day. Afternoons were spent in the tea room after the pub closed!

The one I was working at then was Surtees, I was there 75 thru 77. I did spend time at ATS in 1982, just before moving to the US (after Schmit fired me during the Vegas GP!). Oh fun...

Fuzzy memories from those days, but I think there was an American working on Winklehock's car, I was in charge of Salazar. There was an intense rivalry because we were only ever able to squeeze one of them into the race, Winklehock being German was Schmit's favorite, so we took great pleasure in ousting them when we qualified our car! That's why in vegas we only had two guys assigned to salazar, in the heat we had fuel problems and I spent every session it seemed with my arms immersed in the gas tank trying to fix it, when Schmit came over and told us since Manfred was in that we didn't have to try too hard.... That pissed me off!
